Sources Of Protein For Fitness Enthusiasts
It is a commonly known fact that people who work out need to consume protein in order to continue doing so. Protein is the building block of your muscles. Therefore, eating adequate amounts of protein helps you maintain your muscle mass and promotes muscle growth when you do strength training, or any other type of gym workout, really. However, if you are a vegetarian, it can be difficult to find your source of protein. You might have to eat too much food and that can give you less amount of protein than what per gram non vegetarian food might give the meat eaters. Hence, you can look at a variety of best protein bars available in the market, and some other options.
Protein powder is a huge favourite amongst people who work out. You can buy it by the kilo, the way you would buy wheat flour or a sack of rice, and then add it to water or make a nice protein smoothie out of it. You are best off making your own smoothie, even though there are many ready to drink smoothies available in the market.
When it comes to protein bars, India is still picking up the pace to match with the options available in the west. ...
... However, if you step out to any good pharmacy, you are bound to run into a few good options available in various flavours. The best part about these bars is that they are quite portable. You don’t have to worry about making them, or carrying a special bottle for them, like you do with protein shakes. While they are a little expensive for the amateurs, you should remember that they carry a lot of protein, hence, if you calculate in the long term, they are cheaper and they don’t fill you up too much, leaving you to enjoy your other favourite foods.
Most traditionalists will tell you that it is best to enjoy protein as a part of your food, even if you are a vegetarian. If you want to try that route, you should make it a point to have a lot of pulsees and legumes every day. Daals are a good source of protein. Some fruits and vegetables are also protein rich, and as a bonus they also carry many other nutrients. Bananas are your best friend if you want to grab some protein before the gym. They are also very cheap and nutritious, not to mention easily available.
However, if you are remotely interested in flattering your taste buds, you should try making your own protein shakes. They are a bit of a hassle but there are a lot of easily available recipes on the net. For days when you are travelling, or going directly to work after a workout, keep a workout bar (or many) handy, and you are sorted for the day.
All the best with your workouts, and make sure that you don’t skip your leg days!
