How To Become An Electrolysis Technician
Students are still prone to making wrong career choices. While some make the right choices with good career plans, others are still in doubt if they made the right decision in their field of education.
Are you having doubts about your career choice or educational degree where you find yourself asking these questions:
Did I make a correct career decision?
Is this educational course really right for me?
Will I be happy after graduating with this degree considering the salary and its benefits?
Am I in the right career path where someday I can be my own boss, and have my freedom?
If most of your answers to the questions above are no, then it's time to move on and reinvent yourself while there is time and available resources.
Whether you are a student who has second thoughts about your educational courses, and degree, or a freshman who has not yet decided on what career path to take, alternative choices can allow you to move on with your career.
With the advancement of technology and educational career developments, options for a career change is ...
... fast becoming a ‘trend’ for most students who aspire to live their American dream life.
Presently, one of the fast trending careers in the job market is an electrologist. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) categorized electrologists under the “Skin care Specialists Category”, and has anticipated an increase of job demand in the skincare market that is growing in the upcoming years.
What is Electrology?
Electrology is a methodical practice of electrical hair removal to permanently remove human hair from the body. Electrolysis is the term used in the process of removing hair using electricity. An electrologist is a qualified and certified professional doing an electrolysis procedure by sliding a hair-thin, solid metal probe into each hair follicle without puncturing the skin.
Considering there are several skin hair removal methods like laser, waxing, sugaring, depilatories, shaving, tweezing and threading, electrolysis is still considered by many to offer favorable benefits such as:
ONLY treatment option that’s approved by the FDA for Permanent Hair Removal!
targets the hair follicle
Safe and effective for ALL types and colors of skin and hair
Removes hair on all body parts
For all skin types (grey, blond, dark, fuzzy, course, ingrown, or any other type of hair can be completely and permanently removed)
Mild pain to a virtually painless process
No maintenance required
Is electrolysis a good career?
If you are on a tight budget, have little time to educate yourself, and have bills to pay, electrologists are a practical, ideal, and fast career choice.
Education and Training Requirements
Generally, full-time courses last about four weeks or 200 hours, however, it depends on the school’s program and requirements. Part-time study is also available for some individuals who do not have the time. Even large electrolysis firms and manufacturers of electrolysis machines also offer training programs. If you are lucky enough, as a trainee you can earn a salary as you learn.
Currently, about one-third of the states require electrologists to be licensed. Licensing requirements vary widely from one state to another. Prospective electrologists are required to pass a test before they can be a licensed electrologist.
Working Conditions
Electrologists work at a spa, salon, or dermatologist office, in a clean and attractive working environment. They work scheduled hours including some evenings and Saturdays, however, there are slow periods. Patience and steady hands are some basic requirements to becoming an electrologist, which is needed for removing hairs due to its slow and precise process.
Employment Outlook and Options
Supervisory or managerial positions are great opportunities for those working in large electrolysis firms or salons. With many years of experience, training with certifications, one can also become a teacher of electrolysis. While others open their own salons after getting job experience, usually after two to five years of practical experience.
As many people become concerned with their personal looks, hygiene, and have the budget for electrolysis treatments, the demand for electrologists' services will continue to grow.
How much does an electrologist make?
Based on the Bureau of Labor and Statistics dated May 2016, an electrologist has an average salary of $35,000 annually. Salary and commissions will vary depending on whether you work at a spa, dermatologist office, salon, or large beauty firm. They also accept tips from clients, which are generally well to do or affluent.
How much does a self-employed electrologist make?
Self-employed electrologists charge $35 to $75 an hour. Several earning factors will vary according to the number of clients, and the salon's business expenses, and geographical location.
The best part of being a self-employed electrologists, you are your own boss. You have control of your time whenever, and wherever you want to work. It is the best and ideal career choice for people who treasure their freedom.
