Got an offer to a dream job you always wanted? Well, congratulations. But before you rush with the decision of signing your employment contract, you should look out for clarity on following perspectives.
1. Job role and responsibility
Before making a decision for signing any contract it is essential for candidate to check their precise role and responsibility. What is expected from a candidate, what is an avenue of growth for them in an organization and what their designation for an assigned role is? It is easier to achieve a mutual ground before you begin with your contractual period of employment. Don't settle for the title of an executive for managerial position.
2. Salary perks and benefits
The salary in your contract should correlate with the salary offered in offer letter. Get complete awareness regarding the benefits and compensation attached with your job role. It is easier to set terms for negotiation before signing the contract. Get complete details regarding the method of payment, time for payment and get clarification regarding any unclear compensation information. Don't hesitate to ask about ...
... health benefits, insurance policies and other compensation benefits at this stage.
3. Holidays
This is perhaps the most important benefit factor that is used by candidates to negotiate their employment. Get a clarity regarding number of paid leaves, proportion of holiday allowances, official holidays and number of compulsory leaves. It is also advisable to clarify the time period when you could take a vacation and days when you wouldn't be allowed a day off. It is better to set the terms of holidays clear since beginning rather than involving in grudges at a later stage. Besides, senior level employees be it CEO, executives or a manager stands a higher chance of negotiation in this aspect.
4. Hours of work
You might have researched your organization but it is perhaps the time to get all the teeny tiny details that would affect your productivity in an organization. Your employment contract should have a clear mention about weekly or daily working hours, Compensation attached with overtime and salary deduction in case of early leaves and late arrivals. Besides, check for the clauses of half day and remote working. Your employment contract must clarify all the possibilities of global travel involved with your position.
5. Notice period
Get a deep understanding about the probation period and notice period you would be required to serve. The notice period in case of an employee must not exceed more than 6 months. However, boring and inessential it might sound, give a proper read to such clauses in an employment contract.
It is easier to get swayed away and not get into deep detailing when you have an offer for exciting job at desk. However, don't rush this decision and read for every employment cause that might restrict your future growth.
