Believe it or not, an electric kettle is versatile and can be used for cooking. There are many recipes you can make using only an electric kettle. This is helpful when you live away from home like when you are a student who lives in a dorm or a budget traveler. Eating out at restaurants can add up quickly to your time and expenses so it’s practical to learn some simple recipes to cook on an electric kettle.

Here are 5 quick meals you can cook using electric kettles.

1. Pasta.

Everyone loves pasta, it’s easy to cook and you can add different seasonings to have different flavors. One easy pasta recipe to make in an electric kettle is the sweetcorn pasta. It’s a creamy meal you can enjoy for lunch or dinner. Simply add sweetcorn and butter in the kettle letting the corn cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until it becomes tender and soft. Remove the sweetcorn from the kettle and put the pasta with appropriate amount of water. Drain the water from the kettle when the pasta is cooked then transfer the pasta on a plate. Add the sweetcorn, and throw some herbs like parsley, basil, and oregano. Add cheese and enjoy.

2. ...
... Rice Meal.

This is probably the least you can expect from an electric kettle but yes, it is possible. Soak rice in water for 20 minutes. Chop a selection of vegetables that you like while waiting. You can add potato, carrots, broccoli, beans, and your favorite spices such as garlic, onion, and chili flakes. Add all of the ingredients including the rice in the kettle with water and salt to taste. Cook for 20 minutes and your delicious rice meal is now ready.

3. Soup.

Making soup in the electric kettle is pretty easy. Just boil water and prepare your favorite instant soup powder in a bowl and pour appropriate amount of hot water when ready. You can also make the famous Japanese soup called miso soup with nori and tofu. Chop tofu into small cubes and nori into thin strips. Place a prepared amount of miso paste into the bowl and pour hot water. Add the tofu, nori, onions, and bean sprout. Stir and enjoy.

4. Scramble Burrito.

Love burrito? No problemo. Heat up water in the electric kettle. Crack 4 eggs into a Ziplock bag, and add salsa, cheese, jalapeños, beans, and pre-cooked chicken or chorizo. Squeeze out as much air as you can in the Ziplock bag and seal it securely. Shake the sealed Ziplock bag to mix all of the ingredients inside. Double the Ziplock bag for more security. Put the Ziplock bag into the kettle full of hot water and boil for about 5 minutes or until the eggs are cooked. Wrap the cooked mixture in a tortilla with fresh lettuce, avocado, and additional cheese. Then voila! Your quick and easy to make burrito is ready.

5. Vegetable Noodles.

Noodles is the easiest option to fill up your tummy but let’s make it healthy and flavorful. Chop vegetables of your choice such as cabbage, carrots, green peas, chives, mushroom, and onion. Place the vegetables in the Ziplock bag and heat them in the kettle. Place noodles in a bowl, pour required amount of hot water (see instruction in the noodle pack), cover for 5 minutes or until the noodles are cooked, then add the seasonings and the vegetables that you boiled earlier. You can now enjoy your healthy vegetable noodle soup.

These are just few recipes you can cook using an electric kettle. Be imaginative and creative to discover more recipes. It is best to use a large capacity electric kettle with a wide lid opening so that it’s easy to put the ingredients inside. There are also programmable and multi-use kettles that you can take advantage of which gives you more settings to choose from.
