Comparing The Sho Ford Taurus Engine And The Ford Crown Victoria Engines
Much advancement has been made within the Ford motor company throughout the years and this is no exception especially with regard to Ford Taurus Engines. Wanting to have a leg up on the competition, Ford called upon the designers at Yamaha to jointly create a highly powerful and compact 24-valve 3.0 liter V-6 power plant that would not only inspire more buyers to buy the Ford Taurus but leave the other automakers in the dust.
Starting in 1989, Ford rolled this new design and added it to the lineup. Ford Taurus engines of the past were limited to only the 2.5 liter four cylinder, 3.8 pushrod V-6 and the pushrod 3.0 liter V6. All the 3.8 V-6 shared the same horsepower figure as the 3.0 liter, the higher displacement 3.8 liter made a great deal more torque thus being a little more favorable to customers.
The last year for the SHO 24-valve V-6 was in 1995. Ford then collaborated with Yamaha again to develop an all new 32-valve V-8 that boasted a healthy 235 horsepower; the most power of the Ford Taurus Engines for that generation. Unfortunately ...
... due to slow sales, the powerful 32-valve V-8 was dropped in 2000.
The Ford Taurus SHO for the 2010 model year is nothing short than exceptional. The all new EcoBoost 3.5 liter twin turbo V-6 motor is the most powerful of any generation Ford Taurus engines ever produced. With 365 horsepower, it propels the sleek looking Taurus from 0-60 MPH in as little as 5.2 seconds.
The Ford Crown Victoria is one of the longest lasting models of what we consider full sized sedans today. It's roots can be dated back to the 1950's and has always been sought after as the true family sedan. Ever since then, the Crown Vic has made its way as the preferable choice in terms of commercial fleets, taxi companies and police departments.
One interesting fact is that Ford Crown Victoria Engines have almost always been of the V-8 variety. The Ford 302 and 351 cubic-inch V-8 beginning in 1979 quickly became a formidable standard for Ford Crown Victoria Engines. Through 1983 to 1991, police interceptors made use of the 351 cubic-inch motor while the general public enjoyed the smaller 5.0 liter engine.
From 1992 on, the Crown Vic saw major styling changes. These vehicles saw even more police action and cab duty more than ever. Ford Crown Victoria Engines of yester year were dropped in favor for the better fuel efficiency and advancement of the 4.6 liter over head cam V-8 similar to the ones seen in Ford's Mustang lineup years later.
About: The sales of civilian crown Victoria engine came to a screeching halt in 2007 due to lagging interest shown by customers. Ford still, however, produces the Crown Victoria for fleet operations and police duty. These newer Ford Crown Victoria's are basically unchanged aside from a few ascetics and still shares the single overhead cam 4.6 liter 250 horsepower engine seen in previous years.
Many Ford fans each year still purchase decommissioned police interceptors and modify them to gain even more power from these revered vehicles.
