PST archiving refers to taking backup or moving Outlook PST e-mails to another PST file. Most of the Outlook users archive their PST to reduce the file size, to increase Outlook performance, or to make the PST file more manageable. An archived PST usually contains important e-mails that the user can not afford to lose. However, events like PST corruption can render the file inaccessible owing to which it cannot be opened within Outlook. Thus to repair the file, you need to look for suitable Microsoft Outlook Recovery solutions.

An archived PST can get corrupted for the same reasons that might affect the original PST. These reasons include 2 GB file size limitation, PST shared on network link, unexpected power outage, virus attack, and so on.

In order to be more specific, let's take an example of archived PST file corruption. You create an archived pst and name it archive.pst. Further, to allow simultaneous user access, you move this archive.pst on a shared drive. After some time, when you move it back and try to open the file in Outlook, it fails and the ...
... below error message appears on the screen:

Unable to expand the folder

The above error is a typical indication of PST file corruption. Your archive.pst file is corrupted and can no longer be accessed. A PST user must realize that sharing the file on network is not supported. On any network drive, a PST is accessed by two different methods, by the operating system and by Outlook, which further results in conflicts and hence PST file corruption.

However, to resolve PST file corruption with archive.pst file, you should try to:

Locate Scanpst.exe file and run Inbox Repair Tool on your archive.pst file
Delete the corrupted file and restore it from a good backup
Use a third-party MS Outlook Recovery utility to repair the corrupted PST

Microsoft Outlook Recovery utilities are high-end tools designed to repair corrupted PST files and restore their data to a safe location. Also, these software are effective in repairing PST files that have become corrupt, irrespective of the reason or level of corruption.

Stellar Phoenix Outlook PST Repair is an advanced, yet safe, utility for repairing corrupted PST file. This MS Outlook Recovery software creates a new PST file and restores all the file objects, including e-mails, notes, contacts, calendar items, etc. It supports MS Outlook 2007, 2003, 2002, and 2000.
