Amazing Rajasthan Tour Packages With Enjoy The Land Of Royals
Well, I still remember the trip when, after pampering my soul in the stunning beauty of Taj, we were heading towards the pink city to explore the land of royals and passing through the dazzling yellow swaying mustard fields. The charm of rich cultural heritage, magnificent architecture of Rajasthan has always left me in awe and so this time I wanted to check out what does the state offer more than the Opulent palaces. We booked a stay in an 800 year old heritage hotel located in a remote village of suroth on the way from Agra to Jaipur. Known as the Suroth mahal this small place served as a residence to the descendents of Jaipur Riyasat. Set in the midst of rural surroundings the entrance stood tall preserving the splendor of the past. As we entered the palace, we had this whole group of musicians dressed in the local costumes playing the folk tunes with drums for our welcome. Mr. Bhanu a young gentleman was present to greet us with garlands and tilak. He offered us traditional turbans to wear like the royal guests. That made for a perfect selfie.
The Suroth Mahal displayed a rich inlay work with handmade paintings all ...
... over the walls. The colorful frescoes had floral; tree motifs with the female figures in dancing poses, courtroom scenes depicting some kind of story. The rooms were comfortable with bright Rajasthani upholstery indicative of the warmth and simplicity of the host. The rooms overlooked a central courtyard, a unique feature of traditional Indian houses. After the welcome drink we were invited for the lunch. We could soon sense the food being prepared with its wonderful aroma. There was this cozy dining table well set with the sparkling cutlery, sun peeping from behind us, as we started the meals. Here again we were overwhelmed by the courtesy and hospitality of Mr. Bhanu. The quick and warm service was quite impressive but no way near the quality of the food prepared with liberal use of spices and condiments. We were even given a choice to be served freshly hunted meat for the dinner if we wished. The locals there always like their meats fresh as frozen food is still a concept not so welcomed by the locals in India.
We weren’t done praising the food when we were served the traditional Rajasthani sweet ‘the fanny’ a dish of refined flour, deep fried into delicate thin soft strands, simmered in a mild concoction of sugar In the late afternoon we had a village tour which was quite thrilling on the colorful camel cart. We passed through the narrow lanes of the town bustling with activity and shopping. Our local escort stopped on the way to show us the Batasha (an age old Indian sugar candy used in every household) making process going on in several roadside shops. The workers seemed to have perfected the art with years of experience and offered the freshly prepared samples which I was a little reluctant to try due to high calories. After a few minutes we reached a farm where we were totally overwhelmed by the warmth of the farmer’s family. The lady of the house escorted us her farm where she briefed us about the latest farming techniques and challenges of farming. We even got to pick a few organic lemons, sugarcane and fresh vegetables. The very sweet locals insisted us on having some homemade Halwa and tea. The evenings were full of activities with wonderful folk performances and daring stunts by the female artists adorning all the traditional silver jewelry in the world.
We had fun trying our hand at some Classical Indian instruments some of which we had seen only in the pictures. Then there was also a wrestling match of the two local wrestlers in the courtyard of the haveli. I even got to learn some traditional Rajasthani recipes in the cooking classes.
It was a wonderful evening The dinner again was an extravaganza of an array of green organic vegetables continental platter, the famous Rajasthani cuisine with laal maas, the very sumptuous daal baati made in the clay ovens still widely used in most of Indian villages, the dessert of choorma and Ghewar. That really was a feast for any food lover I bet. Who could probably not have a sound sleep after such great food. And the next morning we started for Jaipur early and bid a bye to Suroth mahal and the friendly hosts? I would like to say that one must surely visit the place to turn your normal travel itinerary into an experience to cherish lifelong.
