For a few years now I noticed scuba diving slowly becoming a fad, every other post or story on social media was about it or people were talking about. I have a few friends who tried scuba diving in India. I would see beautiful videos and hear countless stories about the magical underwater world. I began to psych myself into trying the sport. I love to try new things and have new experiences. I had learnt how to swim as a kid so I was covered.
I enrolled for the PADI scuba diving course in Andaman.

Our lives are ruled by technology so I thought I’ll cut myself off from the internet. I carried maps, directions, planned my tourist destinations and of course the diving course. I decided to submerge myself in tranquillity and enjoy it while it lasts. My dive was at the Havelock island- seashell reef, and myself along with a few other divers got ready in our wet suits to start our beginners course at one of the centers for best scuba diving in India. We were explained all the do’s and don’ts, even the sign language.

It gave me Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara flashbacks, that was the first time I came to know of ...
... this sport, it was a nice feeling to finally be able to do this. I went into the water first so as to cut out the anticipation and waiting. As soon as I was beneath the water, I fell in love with the beauty around me. I felt like that toy diver in a fish tank and was wondering if anyone can see me from outside. It was an out of body experience. It was some kind of heavenly place, as it was so serene and magical that I had nearly given myself to the ocean.

Those 40 minutes flew by in seconds and when the instructor signed that it was time to leave I didn’t want to, but then I realised I will be back for another session the next day. At 40 feet it was a feeling of an achievement, I moved my fins and imagined myself to be a mermaid for a few seconds. I didn’t realise I’d be so happy at that imagination but I probably accomplished one of my dreams I had as a kid to be a mermaid. I am so used to seeing dirty muddy water, but watching clear blue water was peaceful and assuring that it does exist.

The island itself has many beautiful diving sites including the Lighthouse that allows diving in the night, the Aquarium, the White house rock and the Nemo reef to name a few. An added advantage is that the underwater journey will take you to experience a fleet of marine life. Those two days were worth it and got inspired to complete the scuba diving course in Andaman. Right then and there I set a date for the 3 day PADI open water diver course. The island spoke to me and I was excited to return.

Shewta went on a search for the best scuba diving in India and had a beautiful underwater journey and even decided to get certified in the scuba diving course in Andaman.
