Myth Or Maxim: You Should Always Remove Your Makeup Before Bed
We’ve all been there-you finally get home after a long and stressful day at work, and all you want to do is lay in your bed (maybe check out your social media feed) and see the back of your eyelids. The last thing you want to do is sit there, scrubbing the makeup off your face. However, not doing so can lead to unwanted and unsightly effects.
That foundation, lipstick, eyeshadow, mascara and any other products on your face could be doing harm while the rest of your body is trying to rejuvenate simply because your skin needs to breathe. If you want clear and healthier-looking skin, the best way to take care of it is to remove anything that might clog your pores.
Not convinced? Here are some of the consequences if you don’t wipe off your makeup:
Premature Ageing and Wrinkles
Cleansing your skin is such an important factor since, without it, you’ll be trapping dirt and makeup, which has been known to cause oxidative damage. Oxidative damage happens when you do not possess enough antioxidants that can help fix the damage caused by free radicals. So, if dirt and debris are trapped in your pores, ...
... it results in oxidative stress because it hinders antioxidants from repairing damaged skin cells.
Every day your skin is exposed to a lot of factors that cause the breakdown of collagen and wrinkle development. If you don’t sleep, these factors, such as free radicals, will be sealed on the surface of your skin all night long. It will lead to the breakdown of your skin barrier. Thus, prematurely ageing your face. Studies have shown that premature ageing happens because of free radical oxidation. It results in decreasing the skin’s elasticity and resiliency.
Eye Irritation
Before sleeping, remove mascara or false eyelashes. We’ve all been guilty of forgetting to take them off, and so we wake up finding it hard to open our eyes and with dark smudges underneath them. Those who also often wear mascara and don’t remove it before bed tends to have brittle and dry lashes. It can cause eye irritation and, in severe cases, an infection or eyelid cysts.
Acne Breakout
One of the many reasons for acne breakouts is makeup that has not been wiped off properly. It’s important to cleanse your face and remove any dirt and dead skin cells. If they stay on, they will clog the pores, which will then lead to chronic inflammation, such as pimples. Most makeup is also oil-based, and so not taking them off means that it will mix with the dirt and oil from the skin’s surface.
Dull Skin
Don’t forget to exfoliate and clean the face since it is one of the main factors for glowing skin. Without it, makeup will settle in fine lines and creases. Regular cleansing leads to healthy new skin cells. That’s why it is crucial to have a great skincare routine. Otherwise, the skin will be left lacking luster or radiance.
Because of the reasons mentioned above, never forget to wash your face before going to bed. Healthier skin is the best makeup one could ask for. If the skin is not in good condition, the makeup won’t also look quite as good. That’s why both of them depend on each other. At Kaelon, we want our customers to have the best experience.
