No one wants to feel down after a long flight because of the jet lag. You would never like to feel dazed and out of sync with the local timings. Nonetheless, if you go prepared beforehand, you can make sure that you don’t feel groggy at all. However, self-discipline is important to ensure that you don’t waste the important days of your vacation or even work days.

Sleep well a few hours before the journey

Most people make the mistake of thinking that they can sleep while flying, so they don’t take proper rest before the flight, but that never happens. The seats in the economy class are too congested these days to even let you sit properly, forget sleep. On top of that, if you have a toddler traveling with new parents or a noisy passenger beside you, you just cannot think of sleeping at all. No one can save you from feeling dizzy and frustrated in that case. Avoid partying a night before the flight as well. The best thing to do is to sleep only. Take rest for as long as you can to facilitate a pleasant flight ahead.

Eat and drink ...
... only healthy things

It is always tempting to drink like a fish on a flight, especially when it is free and you want to rest for a while. In spite of all the temptations, you must not allow alcohol to interfere with your body’s already impaired system. High altitude also intensifies the effect of alcohol by 2-3 times, which means you will not be able to handle yourself when you land. You are already aware that you need to be cautious to find your luggage and check out safely, and you need good senses for that.

A few scientific studies have concluded that you can have caffeine during or before the flight only when you are flying westward on the globe. If you are flying towards the East, you must not consume caffeine as it has an adverse effect on the body. You must also pack some healthy homemade food so that you don’t feel tempted by the unhealthy fast food at the airports. And the food on the airlines is better to avoid for its tastelessness. God knows why they prepare such food!

Try to workout

In whichever direction you fly, you must make sure you get some workout every day, or at least for a few initial days. A simple walk around the hotel will help you to get rid of the jet lag, if you have got any symptoms. If you are in India and you have hired Car Rentals in Bangalore, for example, you must park your car at a distance from you so as to get some walk before you start driving.

The best thing to do at your destination is to eat, drink, and sleep according to the local clock, though it takes a few days. You need to make conscious effort to get at par with the local things around you so that you don’t feel awkward in your mind throughout your journey.
