The Follicular Unit Extraction (more commonly named as FUE) method of hair transplant is a highly successful method of hair restoration and treating hair loss. The FUE process increases hair growth by allowing regeneration of donor follicles. The procedure is particularly successful when it comes to treating hair loss in the temples, a receding hairline and the bald spot on the head crown.

The FUE hair transplantation procedure involves the transfer of microscopic grafts of hair follicles from a donor area where there's still a good amount of hair to the recipient area where the hair is absent or thinning hair. The most common kind of hair loss in men is male pattern baldness and during this situation, the donor area is at the back of the head and the recipient area at the front of the head. The treatment is minimally invasive compared to older methods. On average, between one and three treatments are likely to be necessary, although this may vary depending upon the transplant required and the available donor hair.

The FUE hair transplantation procedure commences with an area anesthetic, which is applied to both ...
... the donor and the recipient areas. A relaxant like Valium can also be administered to the patient, before the commencement of the procedure. The donor area hair is cut short before the treatment. Individual grafts, which contain one, two or three hair follicles, are then individually removed from the donor area, using a small precision instrument. The grafts are only 0.65 mm to 0.75 mm depending on the thickness of the hair. The grafts are put into a special solution that keeps them sterile and contains substances that support implantation and healing.

The next step is to make openings for implantation in the recipient region using a precision instrument similar in shape to that used to extract the grafts. The openings are quite small, usually just 0.65 mm-0.75 mm again, so that the grafts fit exactly. The duration of the treatment varies, but as a rule, treatment of up to 1 thousand grafts could take up to 6 hours. If the procedure requires quite one thousand grafts, the treatment will usually be undertaken over two to three days. Some aftercare is required following treatment, including a specially formulated wash, antiseptic ointment and possibly antibiotics. Patients may need to restrict physical activity during the recovery period, although can resume their normal activities after three days. A hat will be got to be worn for 3 to 5 days. There is also slight swelling in the treated area for a couple of days and scabs may form. The skin both in the recipient and in the donor region will heal within about a fortnight and any scab formed during this period. Most of the hairs in the transplanted grafts fall call at two to eight weeks, but new hair will start to grow in two to three months and, after six months, there'll be significant new hair growth.

The advantage of FUE is the quality of results. Many physicians tend to use the strip process, as this produces better hair follicles. There’s a lesser likelihood of damage, therefore the probabilities of hair growing back also increase. This helps patients achieve the natural look that they desire. Both procedures do offer substantially attractive results and the choice you make depends on your preferences.
