Using paid surveys are increasingly becoming a common means of gathering data for researchers. After all, it is a strategy which uses the innate human attraction to money to make an interest out of the subjects of a study. Instead of finding volunteers who will willingly take the time to answer questions because they are concerned and they want to be represented, researchers can get their subjects much easier for there is the involvement of a monetary reward. Though the cash given for answering paid surveys are relatively small, it is more interesting for a volunteer who gets a small amount of cash for just a few minutes of his time than for a volunteer stands only to get a thanks and/or a novelty item. These are particularly ideal for large-scale research studies or for those which have limited time or manpower because of the practicality it offers.

Aside from the time-saving benefits of using paid surveys, they may also be beneficial for the representation of the population. If the research topic isn’t very well known and only about a handful of the target population are interested in partaking ...
... in the study, the volunteer subjects may not represent the population well. Thus, results may be limited to a particular social class, age group, or whatever is applicable depending on the scope of the study. But if the money interests a larger audience, chances are they will from different walks of life.

On one hand, conducting paid surveys needs sufficient monetary resources. Although the payments for those who answer the paid surveys are small, the number of persons answering the questionnaires would total to a rather large amount of money. Thus, use of paid surveys for data gathering would be feasible for studies which are backed or sponsored by large-scale corporations or businesses and such.

Because of the paid surveys conducted, there are possibilities that some of the people answering for money would not take the questionnaires seriously. They may fail to take the time to understand the aim of the study and the possible implications of their answers which may lead to imprecise data gathered by the researchers behind the study. Especially with the popularity of paid surveys on the internet, more people can access the questionnaires from their own computers without the pressure of answering as honestly as they can because they are in the safety of their home without the probability of being found out of producing false answers.

All in all, paid surveys really are very convenient for researchers for they can find their subjects easier and those they find would represent the population under concern better. However, paid surveys need a certain degree of financial backing. But with enough resources, they would be easier to conduct. The above makes the use of paid surveys for data gathering very applicable especially for large-scale studies needing data from more people with enough sponsorship. One possible set back is the possible questions about the precision of the answers the subjects would give, given that they are doing it for money.
