Whether you are a fitness freak or striving too hard to shed off those extra pounds for a special occasion, body pain is sure to hit your fitness regime. That’s because a workout program could be quite challenging, especially at the start, when your body is not used to certain activities.

Apart from allotting time to hit the gym, setting fitness goals, and creating a proper routine, you must also look forward to muscle soreness that usually develops post workouts. Some pains could be bearable as they may degenerate within a few hours. However, for pains which are persistent and limit your daily activities, you may have to consult your doctor. A certified physician is sure to recommend you the best pain relief spray to overcome your post-workout muscle soreness and stiffness. Let’s know more about coping with body pains due to workout.

Why are muscles supposed to bear the brunt?

Muscle soreness and/or muscle stiffness causes pain within a couple of days of a rigorous workout or an intensive exercise regime. Subsequently, the onset of delayed body ache symptoms ...
... may be due to minor injuries either to the muscle fibre, the connective tissue, or both. The condition is medically termed as Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) and is very common among athletes or people who frequently indulge in moderate to heavy workouts.

According to experts, acute or shooting pain arising in the muscles due to exercise or a new sport is nothing but the body saying that your muscles need time to recover. On the contrary, once the body gets used to the exercise or the new sport, your body may feel little or no soreness at all.

How long does it take to recover?

Muscle soreness occurring right after a rigorous workout typically goes away after a rest of a couple of days. However, if the muscle pain is intact with along with back pain symptoms, it suggests that you might have sustained a serious injury in the muscle.

Severe muscle pain during or after a workout could also be a potential muscle strain or muscle injury. For such a stabbing muscle pain along with breathing-related problems, muscle weakness, high fever and stiffness in the neck, you must seek medical assistance at the earliest.

What are the immediate actions for treatment?

For immediate relief from shooting or stabbing muscle pain, you may want to try any of the following treatments:

Ice-pack - A simple ice-pack could be an ideal solution to treat complications like acute injury, muscle swelling, joint pain, etc. Simply wrap a few ice-cubes in a towel and dab it on the affected areas for about 15 - 20 minutes. Alternatively, you may also use icy hot pain relief ointment for instant pain relief.

Massage - A good massage along with the pain points for at least 30 minutes can help relax your sore muscles. It also soothes muscle aches and reduces swelling or irritation of the affected area.

Warm-up - Before the workout, ensure that you make your body ready with light stretches and warm-up exercises. Do adequate stretching exercises for about 10 minutes before and after your workout.

Do not give up your workout routine - If there's muscle pain or soreness that you experience post-workout, it suggests that your muscles are being stretched and getting stronger. Hence, instead of giving up your workout routine, you may shorten its duration.

Start slow - You’re more prone to develop muscle pain if your workout is eccentric and fast-paced. Experts suggest starting slow with your workout routine and give your body enough time to adjust to the changes.

In case of serious body pain post-workout, do try a trusted topical pain relief ointment or spray for effective pain relief. Talk to your doctor or trainer if you are not quite sure about which pain relief ointment or spray to go for.
