The dictionary definition of the word pest is ‘a destructive insect or any other animal’ It is rare to have a household without the invasion of pests. It does not matter whether you live in an apartment on an independent house with plants and trees and a backyard, pests will find a way to your home. It gets dangerous when it goes out of control and there develops an infection. Pest control does not have a time at which it should be done. But still keeping a regular check on them and disinfecting the house and its premises will prevent a major pest crisis.
Common Types of Pests in Houses
When it comes to pests found in houses, there are a few that are very common and are found everywhere irrespective of which part of the world you live. Those are:
Houseflies
Fruit flies
Ants
Rats
Cockroaches
Mosquitoes
Spiders
Is monthly Pest control Necessary?
The answer to this question totally depends upon the environmental conditions of the ...
... place where you live. If you live at a pace where there are quite a few rainfalls around the year then the air is possibly humid all the time. In such a condition, pest control needs to be done more frequently. That is because the amount of pest growth will be more in the gap between the two pest removals.
Down below are some climatic conditions and types of households and the answer to whether you need monthly pest control?
If you live in an apartment.
If you live in an apartment then, there are fewer chances of pests like rodents and termites that will infect your house. In that case, pest control needs not to be done monthly. The types of pests that you will have around your house will be, ants, rats, cockroaches, houseflies and such. These are pretty harmless in their normal number but we must always be precautious because once they catch an infection then they will spread it everywhere very fast. In that case disinfect your kitchen sink, cupboards, washbasins, bathtub drains and similar places at least once in two months because pests like cockroaches and other bugs thrive in there and can spread deadly diseases like typhoid, jaundice and many more. Spray those areas with a pesticide that is home-friendly. Do not use heavy pesticides as they may cause breathing problems.
If you live in a ground-level house
If you live in a ground-level house like a villa, an independent house or a cottage, then you will mostly have wide courtyards and backyards with soil and plants and trees growing in it. In that case, there are high chances of pests infesting your house and pest control needs to be done monthly. The common pests that you will encounter along with the most common cockroaches, mosquitoes and ants are rodents, rats and termites. Rodents and rats spread diseases and also can cause havoc inside the house. You need to make sure that you keep rat traps and keep your woods safe from termites. While controlling pests, go for natural methods like using certain herbs and incenses. As you might have a natural space surrounding your house in the form of a backyard, try to go chemical-free and do good for nature.
If you live in a humid place
If you live in a humid place where it rains most of the time then also pest control might need to be done monthly. Humidity supports the breeding of pests. Along with pests, microorganisms like fungi and bacteria will also grow. So, taking care of the house and household items take a little bit of extra effort. As it rains most of the time, it will also lead to stagnant water in the surroundings. Stagnant water leads to the formation of breeding of mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are hard to keep under control as they breed excessively. If you have mosquito troubles then, make sure you do pest control monthly. You might have to get rid of stagnant water all around the house. This includes potted plants as well.
Some of the pest control methods that can be done monthly and by yourself include, getting rid of stagnant water, taking care of potted plants properly so that water does not get collected in them. Cleaning water tanks, disinfecting the drainages and ditches, etc. Make sure all your woodworks and furniture around the house are coated with termite protectant. If you have good vegetation around the house then make sure you use the right pesticides that do not harm the plants but keeps the pests under control.
