Uttarakhand is blessed with tons of nature’s beauty. When I went there for the first time many years ago, it was for a vacation with my family in Dehradun. I loved the place so much that after that trip I went on a few solo trips to Uttarakhand. A friend of mine loves trekking in Uttarakhand and hence, we decided to do a trek to the famous Nag Tibba Range.

Nag Tibba is located at the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayas. This is a perfect weekend getaway with just 2-3 days of the trek and loads of fun with snow. It is a fun and exciting trek without any difficult climbs. Its experience was truly remarkable with the gorgeous views and the easy-peasy trail. The trek distance is about 10 km from the base village of Pantwari. The trek is a great start for beginners too.

For everyone who loves the mountains and nature, this trek is an ideal trip to connect with nature. For the bird lovers there are plenty of rare Himalayan birds to spot, some bulbuls and rare woodpeckers. The trek takes you through thick forests of oak trees and gorgeous blooming rhododendrons and orchids. It also takes you through beautiful villages, ...
... terraced fields and offers great views all the time. To add to this, the campsites are surrounded by massive snow covered peaks and you get to sleep under the blanket of clear starry skies. The summit has stunning views of the Himalayan peaks such the Bandarpoonch range, Black Peak and Kedarkantha Chanabag to leave you breathless. Such a refreshing sight from the concrete jungles I stay in otherwise.

We had to reach Dehradun Railway station by 06:30 to meet our operator here. We met a few of our fellow trekkers as well and we driven to Pantwari Village which is the base village of the trek. This village is located at a distance of about 90 km from Dehradun from where the trek begins. The road to Pantwari was beautiful with the stunning setting of Mussoorie. It was so picturesque. It took us about 3 hours to reach. Once we reached Pantwari we started the Nag Tibba trek. We reached the campsite just before sunset and set up camp for the night amidst the mighty Himalayan peaks all around us.

We woke up to a snowy morning and had breakfast and tea enjoying the views of the peaks slowly being uncovered by the clouds around us. We then continued climbing to reach the peak. The trek took us to nearly a height of 10,000 feet! We also visited the Nag Tibba temple on our way. It is believed that Nag Tibba is the abode of the Nag Devta and hence, many locals come here to offer their prayers. From there we began our climb to the Nag Tibba ridge where we rested for a bit and explored the area. I find treks a way to exploring nature and though we climbed so much I didn't feel even the slightest hint of tiredness. Soon it was time to head back down and we started our return climb and stopped at the campsite for lunch. The descend is quite easy from the campsite to the Pantwari village. After we reached the village we got onto our vehicles and we reached Dehradun by night.

We said our goodbyes to our new trekker friends and our operator who was amazing throughout the trip. My friend and I decided to stay in Dehradun a couple of days more and explore further. We left for our homes soon after. There are plenty of spots for trekking in Uttarakhand but now I can say Nag Tibba trek is one of my favourites. If you are a beginner or someone who wants to start exploring the Himalayas, don't think twice and head to the Nag Tibba trek. In winter this is a winter wonderland trek full of snow experience.

Shewta has been exploring most of the easy treks in the Himalayas for years and writes about her favourite snow trek to Nag Tibba.
