It is sometimes amazing than an embroidery patch or an image on Coffee mug or T-shirt is almost an exact duplicate of even a photograph. In addition, because of the newer sewing machines, embroidery can be put on other materials depending on the material and embroidery sewing machine being used. New printing techniques and machines enable the digitized image to be printed on a plastic or cloth surface such as Coffee mugs, Shirts and T-shirts, caps, and many other promotional items. The Digitizing takes place when the original artwork; a drawing, design, graphic or picture is scanned in Digitizing software and be turned into a digital file.

There are many Digitizing software available. Most machines come with some type of Digitizing software, but many Digitizing operators choose to use some other software that offers more flexibility and additional features than the basic programs that come with the particular machines. There are many software applications available for Windows, Linux and MAC machines and many are freeware or shareware that are much less expensive than the commercial ...
... applications, but do almost everything the professional applications offer.

Most of the applications can be found for download to your computer after using Google, Yahoo, Bing, or other search engine. By simply searching the Internet for "Digitizing" software or "Digitizing" programs you can find many applications and software. You can also add Windows, Linux or MAC to the search parameters to find software or programs for those particular operating systems and that are available online. About one-fourth of the programs are freeware and the remaining run from $20 to upwards of $500.

For embroidery Digitizing, what the software does is to take the scanned image and take each portion of the scanned image and set the type of stitch, kind of thread, color and other parameters the sewing machine needs to know so it can complete the embroidery project. Many things like the type of stitch, length of stitch, whether you want it thick or thin and even special effects can be applied to the scanned image. You can also save the file, then test the embroidery on some scrap material, then go back in, and edit the commands to ensure the best quality possible.

Once the image is completely transformed into the type of embroidery you desire, it is then saved to a file. However, there are some 30 different file types so the proper Digitizing file must be determined. The operator must select the proper file format for the embroidery machine, printing machine that is used to apply the embroidery. Most Digitizing software programs are able to save the file into the 30 or more file formats to a small compact disc or secured data memory card. The file is then loaded into the machines memory and the operator can then apply the digitized images to the material.
