There are several reasons why I love the Dudhsagar falls trek but if I’ve to name one then it is surely because of the beautiful and thundering waterfalls that Dudhsagar is and the relatively easy trail to reach this beauty. I’ve been on this trek before. This is one trek that is not very far from Mumbai and offers great views of the Sahyadri mountain ranges. People from various parts of the country come here to witness the beautiful Dudhsagar Waterfall which means 'sea of milk’ and when you visit this place you will know why. Trekking in India is amazing as we have so many options from the Himalayas in the north to the Sahyadris southwards. And a monsoon wonder is an easy trek to the mighty Dudhsagar waterfalls.

The trail is easy and fun as it takes you through the thick forest of Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. The most exciting part of the trek is also the walk along the railway tracks and the views of the stunning Sahyadri mountains.

Trek to Dudhsagar Waterfalls

Dudhsagar is one of the tallest waterfalls in India with a height of 1000 feet and it is set within the Mollem National Park and ...
... the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary at the border of Karnataka and Goa. We reached the Pune Railway Station and boarded the Goa Express Train along with a few other trekkers at around 4.30 pm. We reached the Dudhsagar station early morning around 4 am. We got our breakfast and started towards the base of the Dudhsagar Waterfall. Trekking through lush green and thick forests, it was an easy trek but some portions were a bit tricky. Because of the rains many places were a bit slippery while a few had become quite mucky. It felt like we were transported back to our childhood and it was so much fun crossing small streams on the way. Finally, we reached the waterfalls.

It was a sight to behold. The roaring waterfalls was in all its glory as it was monsoon. We could not stop clicking pictures and videos. The surrounding lush green pastures are equally beautiful. We spent a couple of hours enjoying the view and the location. We dipped in the waters away from the waterfall. Soon it was time to head back. We began our trek to Kulem through dense forests and streams. It was an absolutely mesmerising trek and we felt so close to nature. It wasn’t raining and we could hear like a thousand sounds of the forests while we walked through the forest. We reached the resort at late afternoon and our tired and rumbling stomachs were happy to see the meal spread. We rested for a bit here.

Soon it was time to head for our trains and we left early evening towards the Madgaon Railway stations. We took an overnight train and reached back home early in the morning. This was the end to my Dudhsagar falls trek. Such trips keep wanting me to explore more options for trekking in India and it is time for me to plan my next one!
