Fire sprinkler systems cannot be thought without nitrogen generators. This is because corrosion is one big major concern with fire sprinkler systems. In the industry most commonly used generators are Nitrogen generator membrane systems and PSA which stands for Pressure Swing Absorption. Production of nitrogen from compressed air is the main functioning of these systems. Let us take a quick glance at the functioning of Nitrogen generator membrane system.

Selective Gas Permeation Principle

One must know that Nitrogen generator membrane systems work on the principle of selective gas permeation. Each gas contains its own permeation rate. In the process, stream of compressed air is made to pass through the membrane. This is where gases that possess faster permeation rates get released back into the atmosphere. These gases are Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide. Actually the released gas is waste gas. You must know that some nitrogen also gets released back to the atmosphere with these gases. What happens because of this is that nitrogen which doesn’t contain Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide is made to pass out of the separator ...
... at the other end. Low pressure is used for the collection of gas. Nitrogen generator membrane systems do not need a nitrogen receiver tank, like Pressure Swing Absorption systems.

Now while we have understood the functioning of the membrane system, let’s go through the benefits of these systems as well.

Advantages of Nitrogen Generator Membrane System

Nitrogen generator membrane systems are fairly simple in construction which makes them easy to use. They are considered easy to operate and since they are not quite heavy in weight it is other added advantage of the system. You do not need to spend a fortune on the maintenance of these wonderful systems. Besides, they do not make much noise which makes it convenient for the operators.

Performance of a Nitrogen Generator Membrane System

Operating temperature of the air is one of the major reasons behind the performance of the membrane system. 55 degree Celsius is considered an ideal temperature to obtain maximum performance of the nitrogen generator membrane system. Temperature must not exceed 65 degree Celsius. In this case the generation unit will trip. You must note that an air heater is not required if the feed air’s temperature is between 55 to 60 degree Celsius.

Nitrogen generator membrane system is a good investment and that’s why they are preferred. For detailed information about the components of membrane systems, feel free to write in to us. We will be more than happy to respond to all your queries.
