Kuwait is a stunning country set in the Middle East blessed with a long stretch of pristine coastline, architectural wonders, excellent restaurants and hotels, religious sites and a blend of modernity and old-world charm. Kuwait isn’t exactly popular with tourists and very few know what this charming country has to offer, so we have put together a useful guide to travelling to this lesser known Middle East hotspot.

Best Time to Visit - Weather

Kuwait has a subtropical desert climate with hot and sunny weather all year round. The country rarely sees any rain; the average annual rainfall is only 4 inches. Summer here is scorching with daytime temperatures reaching 45°C from June to September, and winters are milder between December-Feb with temperatures on average from 13-20 °C. This is the best time to visit which also happens to be Kuwait’s camel racing season. Spring is also a pleasant time to visit from Feb-May when the humidity isn’t so unbearable. Secure Kuwait flight deals with Brightsun Travel all year round.

Getting Around

Kuwait runs a bus transportation ...
... service and the main bus station is set in the country’s city centre which has useful bus timetables. However, this service is usually used by locals rather than tourists. Kuwait is preparing for a light rail system with driverless trains which is expected to launch next year. The current main form of transport in Kuwait is taxi; the best way to book them is to ask your hotel for recommendations rather than hailing one on the street or refer to the local government agency.

Accommodation - Where to Stay

Kuwait caters for all budgets with a mixture of glitzy 5 star hotels, boutique properties, moderately priced city centre hotels and budget accommodation, most of which offer air conditioning. The 5-star JW Marriott is a popular choice for an upscale stay; it’s situated in the city centre with elegant rooms and suites, authentic dining restaurants, a pool, whirlpool and much more. A more moderately priced option is the Ibis Kuwait Salmiya which overlooks the Arabian Gulf with all essential modern comforts and facilities, just 20 minutes from the airport.

Major Attractions

A trip to Kuwait is not complete without visiting the Kuwait Towers, the country’s most recognisable landmark which comprises of three separate towers with a blend of traditional Islamic architecture and contemporary designs. Another must-visit is the Souk Al-Mubarakiya - a traditional marketplace with local stalls selling everything from spices and street food to handicrafts, jewellery and perfumes. Then there’s the Dar Al Athar Al Islamiyyah, an immense cultural centre with over 30,000 Islamic artworks and objects. Finally, don’t miss the bustling Kuwait Corniche which is lined with blissful beaches, walkways, garden spaces, cafes and restaurants.
