Samsung shipped 83% in the second quarter.

South Korea has been a pioneer in the 5G market, and its wireless operators will begin offering services in April.

This helped Samsung and LG rank second in the 5G smartphone market in the third quarter.

Samsung currently has five 5G models on the market.

LG's cumulative shipments of 5G smartphones in the first and second quarters reached 700,000.

Chinese OEM Xiaomi, Huawei, Lenovo, vivo, OPPO and ZTE's OEM shipments accounted for 17% of total 5G shipments in the second and third quarters, reaching 700,000 units.

Although Chinese OEMs account for more than half of the global smartphone market, their share of 5G smartphone shipments accounted for only 17% in the third quarter.

Such a small share is due to the fact that most of the 5G models made in China are shipped to overseas markets, and most smartphones sold by these OEMs are mid-range and low-end devices.

Chinese OEMs are less recognized than high-end brands, and consumers believe that high-end brands can trust that they are the first-generation 5G equipment suppliers. For ...
... example, OPPO is using its 5G smartphone as a brand building product to expand its sales in Europe.

As 5G services in China begin to roll out, shipments of 5G smartphones from Chinese OEMs will begin to increase significantly. In addition, Samsung does not have a place in the Chinese smartphone market, so it has not become a major competitor of the Samsung brand.

The average price of a 5G smartphone in the second quarter was $ 1,153. Prices fell slightly in the third quarter to $ 994.

However, the pricing range has become increasingly diverse, with some OEMs setting high-end prices for their 5G phones at around $ 600, and flagship devices such as the Galaxy Fold pushing prices up.

Despite the drop in price, the average price of a 5G smartphone is still more than three times higher than the average smartphone price of $ 309 in the third quarter, and it is too high to generate more sales. According to the Smartphone Model Market Tracker's forecast, a total of 13.5 million 5G smartphones will be sold in 2019.
