If you are headed to Curacao for a vacation, you should get yourself acquainted with the various things that could be done in the island so that you'd be able to enjoy your trip to the fullest. After all, with the sheer amount of things to do, you just might get overwhelmed if you don't come prepared. When it comes to vacations in Curacao, most people immediately think of the glorious island living. Sandy beaches, pristine waters, the sun on their faces and of course, the cold drinks to go along with it. However, the island has got so much more to offer besides that. But before we get to the other activities that could be done within the island, here's a brief bio of the location itself.

Curacao is considered to be one of the best hidden gems of the Caribbean and that alone should give you a little insight onto how special the place is. The island is generally flat and stretches for about 40 miles from the southeast to the northwest at pretty much the same north-south angle as the other islands in the ABC group that includes Aruba and Bonaire. Curacao is actually the most populous of the bunch and is considered to be ...
... the biggest in the Netherlands Antilles group of islands. With its irregular coastline strewn with inlets and small bays, there is plenty of space for people to simply relax in.

The capital of the island, Willemstad, is a bustling township of about 130,000 residents. It is also where you would be able to find Curacao accommodations, restaurants, shopping centres as well as other business establishments. As we have mentioned earlier, the island is more than just a beach destination. If you are looking for something more adventurous then you can go and rent a bicycle and make your way to the island's long north coast where you would be able to find rougher coastlines as well as limestone cliff formations and volcanic rock, which are believed to be eons-old. The weather beaten terrain in this area is due to the fact that it is often buffeted by the northeast trade winds thus giving the place a rougher feel compared to the other parts of the island. This area is also less inhabited but you will find small villages along the way as long as old plantation houses which residents refer to as landhuis.

Just north of the town of Willemstad are the Hato Caves. These are basically gouged out of the aforementioned limestone cliffs that were formed ages ago as the island slowly emerged from the sea. They are still forming, as a matter fact, a truly magnificent process. If you want a view of the underwater life thriving in the island's crystal clear waters without having to go down yourself, then you should head on to the Curacao Sea Aquarium where you would be able to immerse yourself in the entire underwater splendor that Curacao has to offer. The place can get a little busy at times, with it being one of the most popular spots in the island, but it definitely is worth a visit.

If you find yourself feeling a little tired from all that sight seeing and find that you need to take a bit of a break before the next big adventure then head onto one of the islands many accommodations that would fit any person's budget. For those looking for luxury hotels Curacao, there are quite a number to choose from. Try the Hilton Curacao for good old fashion luxury with two private beaches and a casino. The fun times certainly don't stop here. Looking for more privacy? Well, the Chogogo Resort should offer you all the amenities that you require.
