Keeping Your Bedroom Free Of Bed Bugs
Bed bugs can be a big nuisance, especially if they start biting you at night when you are sleeping. While some folks are aware of what a bed bug is and looks like, for the uninitiated it is a big challenge. They are not aware of what has bitten them and are therefore clueless of what to do.
Sometimes bed bugs get so much infested in the bedroom that they start appearing on your bed, in the Organic Duvet Covers, inside pillow covers and on bed sheets. If such a situation comes to pass, then you must immediately take remedial steps.
What do bed bugs look like and what do they do?
Bed bugs are tiny nocturnal insects that act as parasites and feed on human blood. They operate mostly at night when you are fast asleep. A bite from a bed bug can cause skin rashes, allergic symptoms and in severe cases can even lead to multisystem organ failure. The majority of bites take place on the soft parts of the skin and typical places are the chest, the back, neck, hands, feet or face.
Where ...
... are bed bugs mostly found?
Bed bugs prefer to hide during the day time and appear during the night. They hide in corners and dark places and on things made from fabric and wood, instead of plastic and metal. They can be found in bed joints, along the edges of carpets and behind mirrors or inside smoke alarms.
How to protect yourself from bed bugs?
Below are a few steps that you need to take to protect yourself from bed bugs:
- Put a Glycerine lotion. It provides relief from itching, protects the skin and dries up the rashes.
- Put a paste of baking soda and water on the skin. Let it dry and then wipe off with a soft cloth.
- To provide relief from itching and burning, put toothpaste containing menthol on the bite.
- Use Witch Hazel, a mild anaesthetic to get relief from itching.
- Aloe Vera is also a good antidote that provides relief from itching and biting.
- You can also use lemon juice that has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and functions as a natural stringent.
When you have established awareness about bed bugs, it is time to prevent them from infesting into your organic duvet covers by taking simple steps outlined below:
Protecting your bedroom from bed bugs
- Remove your organic duvet covers, bed covers, bed sheets and pillow covers.
- Seal them in a laundry bag and take them to the washing machine.
- Wash them separately in hot water and dry them at a high heat setting.
- Vacuum clean your bed, especially along the seams of the mattress, pillows, box spring, and along the cracks and crevices in the bed frame, headboard, and footboard.
- Use a high-pressure steamer to kill bed bugs and eggs that might be hidden deep within the furniture.
- Put spray and then contact spray on the joints of the bed frame, headboard, and footboard.
- Put the mattress and the box spring to dry and when done, put them in bed bug encasements.
How to protect your bedding from bed bugs?
The best way is to keep your bedding clean and to keep washing it regularly. Watch out for reddish-brown stains on it. Wash the organic duvet covers, pillow covers, bed sheets and bed covers at high seat setting and dry it at a temperature of not less than 118 degrees Fahrenheit. This will kill all the bed bugs.
After drying, store the bedding in a laundry bag. Open the bag as needed. Follow this procedure as long as the bed bugs are still in your room. When bed bugs have finally been eliminated then you can store your bedding in a closet.
Conclusion:
Bed bugs can be really troublesome and costly to get rid of, but by following some simple steps outlined above, you can protect your bedroom and your bedding.
