Whether we are a dog person or a cat person, our pets are those members of our family that sometimes need a little extra love and care. Taking them to the veterinarian, ensuring regular screening, and keeping their vaccinations up to date are just some of the things we must look into. Veterinarians now have access to medicines from some of the top veterinary medicine companies in India, thus ensuring that our pets can get the treatment and care they need at all times.

Here are some simple yet important ways to keep our pets healthy and happy:

Routine Veterinary Visits
Just like we humans must go for regular health checkups, so it is for our pets. Due to their short life span, dogs, cats, or any other pets must have health examinations once or twice a year. During the earlier stage, vet visits can be planned around their vaccinations but must be carried out nevertheless. As they say, prevention is better than cure, don't wait for them to fall sick before you take them for a checkup. Also, older pets or those with medical issues may need frequent visits. A veterinarian will do a complete head to tail examination ...

Vaccination Update
Ensuring timely vaccination is an important part of responsible pet care. Just like we wouldn't skip vaccinating our kids, similarly, we mustn't skip regular vaccination of our pets when they are young. They are vulnerable to various health issues such as distemper, parvovirus, rabies, Lyme disease, feline herpes virus, feline leukemia, etc. for which getting timely vaccination is extremely important. Also, vaccines need renewal from time to time and hence are as much important for older pets as for younger ones.

Screening Tests
Screening tests can detect diseases in your pets even before the symptoms show up. Therefore, taking your pets for regular screening tests is very important for their good health and well being. A vet will suggest screening tests depending upon their age to detect health issues such as diabetes, kidney disease, etc. Upon detecting any such health issues your pet might be facing, they can then provide the required treatment and medicines. With a wide range of veterinary medicine manufacturers in India, procuring medicines recommended by your vet for your pet is not difficult anymore. Thus, timely screening tests are highly important for your pet's healthcare.

Healthy Diet
A good diet goes a long way in keeping your pet healthy and safe from diseases. Not just that, it strengthens their immune system, thereby helping in increasing his or her mental acuity while keeping their joints and muscles healthy. A healthy diet for your pet should comprise of all the required nutrients. For example, when choosing the correct cat food, make sure it has a balance of proteins, carbs, and fats. In the case of dog food, it should have enough fiber for the digestive system.

Dental care
One of the most common problems our pets face, especially dogs and cats, is dental disease and oral health issues. They can be painful, thereby making it difficult for your pet to eat. To avoid them, take your pet to the vet for regular checkups and cleanings. Also, brush their teeth with pet toothpaste and give them dental chews to keep their teeth healthy and clean.

Exercise To Stay Active
Being overweight can cause a myriad of health issues, not just for us but for our pets too. In fact, obesity can shorten your dog or cat's life by almost two years! This is because obesity increases the chances of your pet contracting diseases such as diabetes and arthritis. Hence, exercise is the perfect way to stay lean and healthy for us and our pets. We must maintain their level of activity by taking them for long walks, playing fetch with them, or letting them run around a little in the pet park.

Taking care of a pet requires as much responsibility as taking care of a little child. Our pets also are a part of our family and need a lot of love, care, and attention. We must give them all of that and more!
