What Do You Do If Your Cat Goes Missing?

It’s really heart breaking when you see your cute catty missing from home. Specially distressing for kids because they are so much attached to their pet. Bringing home the lost one is very difficult task and quite tricky as they can hide in very small extraordinary spaces. It needs a lot of effort and patience. There is about 33% chance that a missing cat will be found within 7 day and about 56% by 2 months. Few are recovered after that also.

There are some following ways which are helpful in finding your cat easily:

Check your house from top to bottom: A thorough and well conducted physical search is the most effective way to find a missing cat. Most cats, especially inside cats, do not go very far. They probably stay within a five house radius for the first few days and week. They lay low and hide and wait. They can sleep in unusual places, make sure to check thoroughly around your home, garden, terrace, porch all the places where she can hide. Pay special attention to empty places where a cat could go unnoticed. Stop in between and shake the food packet, call ...
... out cat’s name and then wait quietly for any sound or clue.

Immediately get in contact with your neighbours, local vets in your area, local police station, all local rehoming charities, local council’s street cleansing department who will have a record of any cats found in your area recently, all the pet rescue centers and all other possible places related to pet.

Social media is an extremely effective way to reach as many people as possible. Post detailed information about your cat in all social media platform like facebook, Instagram, twitter. Also take help of lost and found websites. Opt for an automated service which can immediately call or e-mail thousands of people residing nearby, about your lost cat.

Contact your local newspaper to put an ad in the “lost and found” section of classified adverts.

If you have pet insurance, contact your provider as they may help you financially and advice you on how to find your pet.

Post and distribute posters and flyers having detailed information about your cat with its clear picture.

Get your cat microchipped and If your cat is microchipped then contact the microchip database and register them as missing.

Get a collar: In addition to a microchip, give your cat a collar and up-to-date ID tag. So that in future if any worst situation like this will come it will help you and other people in finding your pet.

Cats have a strong sense of smell. Leave out a regular blanket or bedding with your cat’s favourite food, toys and bowl of water to lure them out.

Train your cat: Train your cat not to go out alone. Train to come, stay, sit and just about anything you want.

Most importantly don’t be impatient and panic. Be persistent and don’t abandon your search. Proactive approach will help you to meet your catty quickly, so good luck!
