How To Use A Highlighter
How to use a highlighter
Highlighting can be a complicated business. Too much in the wrong places will give it an unnatural glow that could emerge similar to the tin man, which is not a look anyone should go outside of Halloween. The trick is to use the product in moderation and only in specific areas, to underline the natural luminosity of your skin. To make sure you don't have to learn it the hard way, here are some tips and tricks to master the perfect highlighting technique.
Tools you will need
In addition to your usual essential makeup staple, you will need a concealer that is a lighter shade than your skin tone, a makeup sponge, a spongy eye shadow brush and your choice of one or more cream-shaped markers, bar or dust.
Preparation
Start preparing your face as you normally would before applying a full face. This means applying moisturizer and primer to withstand an airbrush finish. Then use your base of choice for a uniform-looking canvas. Side note: a liquid base tends to give a smoother finish than a powder-based one. Contouring your features with a slightly darker tone than yours will ...
... frame your face and really underline the highlighted parts. Now is the time to bring the concealer. Apply stitches placed horizontally on the forehead, under the eyes and chin, and mix well with a damp makeup sponge. The next step will be to start the lighting process.
Areas to highlight
For a natural glow, the areas you want to highlight are those that capture the light naturally. A few strokes along the top of the cheekbones and just above and below the arch of the eyebrows will give these points a visual boost. A thin line along the bridge of the nose can not only make it look thinner but also gives you the tip of your dream elf. For a more complete pout, apply a little highlighter to the arch of your cupid, just above your upper lip. A small product on the chin will accentuate the lower lip. Highlighter also has a way to make the nights disappear; Two small spots on the inner corners of your eyes and in the centre of your eyelids will open your eyes and make you look more awake.
How to use Highlighter Stick
A highlighter is a perfect tool for when you need a quick touch up on the go. Not only is it incredibly compact, but the swivel tube makes the application process very simple. After completing your base and contour rituals, use some translucent powder to settle the product. Doing so will also help the cream-based illuminator better grip your skin. Mark the facial areas that you would like to show with the stick, then mix the formula on your skin with a traditional makeup blender, a soft brush or even with the fingertips. Most highlighting bars are also excellent for "strobe," which is essentially an extreme version of highlighting.
How to use Highlighter Powder
Pressed powder highlighter is an excellent option if you want to add a more subtle shine to your everyday look. Once you have applied your base as you normally would, you can use a brush to sprinkle some highlighter on the cheekbones, chin, nose and forehead. The key here is to start slightly and slowly build the product through layers since the intensity of the lighting is easier to control in this way. Since it is a softer way to accentuate your features, the powder highlighter is also ideal when you are looking for a barely visible makeup look. Its soft texture will contribute to a fresh and versatile face.
What brushes to use for highlighter
There are some options to consider when choosing a brush to apply the powder highlighter. A standard medium-sized powder brush will ensure a light and even coverage, while an angled kabuki brush can allow more precise strokes. Some professionals, on the other hand, prefer a powder fan brush since its shape can cover larger areas, such as the forehead and cheekbones, in one fell swoop. However, it can also be used for the thinner lines necessary to highlight the nose and eyebrows.
How to use Cream Highlighter
A cream highlighter is an ideal choice for a glamorous look. The concentrated formula contains more pigment than other highlighting products, which makes it perfect for bolder accents. However, be careful not to apply too much, as it will look too drastic and extremely unnatural. With wet highlighters like this, you will want to try and use your fingers or a sponge to gradually mix the product until you achieve the desired luminosity. It is also great to use it in addition to other illuminated
