Clep Is Free College Credit For Military Members, And Helps Service Members Get Ahead In College

Earning a degree takes time and money. There is no question that a college education is a lengthy and expensive process. The good news for military members is that the College-Level Examination Program, or CLEP, allows service members to earn undergraduate credits for a number of courses without having to attend classes. That equates to free college credit, time saved and a faster track to that college degree. With the average cost of college credits ranging from $274 to nearly $1050 in private schools, along with the cost of high-priced college textbooks and ever increasing tuition costs, the advantages of CLEP are obvious. Not only are students able to accelerate their education with CLEP, they can save thousands of dollars.
The Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) provides funding for CLEP exams for all active duty and reserve military personnel. DANTES will also fund CLEP tests for spouses and children of members of the reserve forces. Department of Defense employees as well as a number of civilian employees are also eligible. Inactive military ...
... personnel and veterans, however, are not eligible but may use their education benefits to earn CLEP credits. DANTES provides CLEP information and funding, as well as study guides for students.
Service members can take CLEP tests free of charge on military installations. CLEP exams are also administered at 1,300 college test centers. Military personnel will be responsible for paying the administration fee at college test centers, but the examination fee will be paid for by DANTES.
CLEP is an efficient way to apply the knowledge gained through on-the-job military training, independent study and life experiences toward earning a college degree. While a typical college semester lasts for 18 weeks, credit for a full semester can be earned simply by taking a CLEP exam. CLEP credits are earned by successfully passing a CLEP test. A CLEP exam is typically 90 minutes long, and will have between 90 and 140 questions, most of which are multiple choice.
CLEP exams include both General and Subject tests. General examinations include English composition, humanities, college mathematics, social science, history and natural sciences. Subject examinations include a number of exams in business, composition and literature, government, language, history, mathematics, natural sciences, psychology and social sciences. CLEP has designed these exams to replace many of the general education requirements for a college degree, it is possible to greatly speed up the education process and get ahead in college.
Currently, 2,900 colleges and universities accept CLEP credit for degree prerequisites. It should be noted that not all colleges and universities accept CLEP credits, and students should contact the institution they plan to attend for information regarding the school's CLEP policy.
About Us:- While all college students are eligible to earn college credits through CLEP, DANTES funding is an added benefit for members of the military. Through CLEP, the time and cost of actually earning that degree can be significantly reduced.
