Today computers are everywhere around us. We have a home PC, a work computer, a laptop, a mobile phone and many other data drives. Today it's no surprise to have a local area network at home. Let's say, I need to copy some files from a flash drive to my work computer. Or I have modified some business data at home and need my work computer have last modification. In these and many other cases I will need to synchronize folders and files.

Of course, it is possible to perform copying manually. But the expediency of such a way is doubtful. It surely takes an unjustified amount of time and efforts. Also when synchronize folders and files manually a user is not safeguarded against some mistakes. To prevent unwanted changing of folders and to make synchronization easier there are some tools to do it automatically. I will absolutely go for special software for automatic synchronization if I have large volumes of information on different drives that I need to keep in actual state. Because such software can save me a lot of time as well as protect me from catastrophic consequences of my own mistakes. Such software can usually synchronize ...
... folders in two methods:
One-way synchronization, when changed and new files are copied from one folder to another
Two-way synchronization, exchanging modified and new files between folders.

For example, when I edit data on my work computer and have its storage on external hard drive, I choose the first sync method. But when, for instance, my colleague and I work on the same project and modify different files in one directory, it is more relevant to use the second method.

Besides synchronization between local drives, there's a feature designed for remote synchronization with network drives, or sync via FTP/SFTP. This might be of great use when I need to synchronize folders on different computers in Local Area Network or with FTP server.

Furthermore, to ease up the process there are such function as scheduled sync, that allows me to synchronize folders automatically, with practically any time interval. For folders containing same named files usually there is a choice of what to replace. It can be the last modification, or the larger file, and so on.

Generally, when rather large volumes of information are needed to be kept in actual state, it is quite wise to use special software to synchronize folders: it is totally worthwhile for such a laborious work.
