Athens Travel Guide

The Greek capital of Athens draws visitors from all over the world eager to immerse themselves in the culture of a city which founded civilization as we know it. With so many sights familiar to us all only from books and television, there is so much to see and to discover if you pay a visit.
You can find all kinds of hotels across the city, from the trendy joints in the centre of town where all the stars head when they''re in town, to the establishments further afield perfectly situated for you to go and explore the country beyond. As soon as you''ve arrived, you''ll no doubt want to go and see more.
The ancient fortified town on Athens which now is known to us as the ruins of the Acropolis is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and always a popular attraction for tourists. You can get a beautiful view of it from the Ancient Agora, the lush green space where you will find the preserved ancient Temple of Hephaestus and the museum known as the Attalos Stoa. A rather more modern attraction, the enormous, white, marble Panathinaiko Stadium always proves popular too as the place that hosted the first modern-day Olympic Games ...
... in 1896.
Athens is the kind of place where you will discover something new around every corner. All around, there are beautiful little Greek Orthodox churches tucked away. Near the Acropolis the popular area known as the Plaka is where tourists head to find restaurants and cafes as well as a range of shops.
There is plenty more to see and enjoy: the Herod Atticus Theatre beside the Acropolis is a divine place to go, hosting classical ballet and theatre, whilst the outdoor theatre at the top of the Lykavettos mountain brings all kinds of acts to perform.
When night falls, you will be sure to find somewhere good to eat out, drink, and enjoy the warm Athenian air. There are ouzeries and cafes where plenty of people head out to dine with friends and family or to enjoy a couple of drinks. The bars in Prisi are a little on the pricey side but nonetheless they attract a good crowd. Alternatively the Gazi area is always popular as well.
The outdoor cinemas across the city like the Cine Paris in the Plaka are always enjoyable. Located on rooftops and in parks, you can go and enjoy films which are usually English language too.
A popular tourist destination which can surely never lose its ancient cultural heritage, the city of Athens may be the perfect place for you. You can go and see the great sights, immerse yourself in its rich history, and then top every day off with a gorgeous meal and a lovely night out.
