First things first, endless travel is not for you if you become constantly homesick and you need your mother’s food to comfort your soul. Even though travel is the best thing you can gift yourself, it is not always as flowery as it seems on the surface. There are challenges that you must know before traveling for a long time.
Solitude is different from loneliness
You may want to seek solitude for some time, which is normal for every human being in the world. Even animals and birds like to be alone for some time before they join their flock. Nonetheless, if you are too attached to your family, home, or job, you must not think about long term travel. It is better to go for a few breaks in the year, and return to the same routine that you like.
People go on with their lives
If you are gone somewhere for a long vacation, it is unrealistic to assume that people’s life will cease for you. No one will wait for your return to get married, people will celebrate their birthdays and anniversaries, and your peers will climb the corporate ladder. You may miss all of ...
... these important events in their lives and they will not even remember your important dates. After a few years of your absence, people will get habitual of you not being present.
Places may disappoint you
Pictures tell an altogether different story about places around the world, which may be starkly different from the reality. You may take a bold step to change your lifestyle forever as a fulltime traveler, but it may seem worth it when you travel to places only to find disappointment. Even though distress is a part of travel, no matter short or long travel, it may still hurt you more because you sacrificed a lot to have this life. Be prepared for frustration, anger, and a lot of occasional regret. If you cannot handle these negative feelings along with the positive ones, you must not go for a long, really long vacation.
The irritation is inevitable
People often love to face the discomfort while traveling occasionally, but not for a very long time. You may also love to sleep in the claustrophobic hostels in Spain, pay a huge amount to rent a car Pune, experiment with foods, and talk to people you don’t like. All of these acts are just fine when you don’t have to do them too frequently. Things tend to aggravate when you have to endure them on a daily basis. You may feel tired of talking to people you just met, learning a new language every few months, not being able to communicate your true feelings, and eating foods that don’t make you feel home. You need to have very high resistance when you know that every negative feeling is going to aggravate when you are out there for a long time.
Money issues
Having a constant income is perhaps the most important problem of fulltime travelers. You may want to leave your job or work remotely, but having a constant flow of money becomes a huge issue. You may have to find jobs in every city you visit, and many locals may not even want to employ you because you may leave without a notice. Travelers don’t enjoy a good reputation around the world, which is why employers hesitate to keep them on work.
There are some real issues that fulltime travelers have to face, and you must stay at home if you cannot do so.
