Fresno Sports and Outdoor Recreation

Fresno's unique location near the geographical center of California offers plenty of opportunities for sports and outdoor recreation.

The Woodward Park in Northern Fresno is a 10 acre bike park which offers progression based riding. Hiking and trekking are two of the most loved Fresno activities. See the cityscape on top of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Pack up your things and escape to the wilderness in these locations: Wishon, Tollhouse, Tamarack Ridge, Shaver Lake, Kaiser Peak, and Dinkey Creek.

Horseback riding is an amazing leisure activity in the Fresno Metro area. You can enjoy this one-of-a-kind recreational activity in the following areas: pack stations at Sequoia National Forest, Wonder Valley Ranch and Resort and Huntington Lake.

Hunting and fishing are also excellent outdoor activities. Hume Lake and Woodward Park/Jensen Sports Complex are the best places recommended for these activities.

Fresno is also popular for its green and majestic golf courses. Golf masters like Tiger Woods enjoy playing at the 18-hole course - Brighton Crest. The golf course sits on the foothills of the Sierra and Millerton Lake, and requires great mastery to score a hole in one. Opposite the Brighton Crest is the Copper River Country 18-hole par 72 Championship Golf Course. Of the 18 holes on the course there are 7 with distinct water features and great scenic views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Fresno Arts and Culture

Visit Fresno's art district during ArtHop - a project of the Fresno Arts Council which celebrates local artists and their works. Meet and greet with the artists at various ArtHop venues in downtown Fresno and the Tower District on the first and third Thursday of each month. Venues open at 5:00 pm and run the free event until 8:00 pm.

Fresno is also home to the African American Cultural and Historical Museum. It exhibits amazing artworks representing the historical culture of African-Americans in the Central Valley. The collection showcases the formation of African American leadership in the San Joaquin Valley.

The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia has its own museum that exclusively exhibits German-Russian and early Fresno Artifacts. Russian-German visitors can have a genealogical tree checked at the museum.

Family Fun and Things to do in Fresno

Attractions in Fresno are excellent crowd pleasers. The city's young wildlife sanctuaries, summer camps, and recreational facilities like water parks are the most sought after attractions in the area.

Fresno has lots of recreational facilities for kids and kids at heart. Blackbeard's Family Fun Center is a leisure park that has an in-house miniature golf course for golf aficionados. It also has water slides and bankshot basketball.

Racing fans will be thrilled to know that Blackbeard's has its own speedway and slic-trac races; not to mention bumper boats and Cap'n Kids Ride Land.

Get wet and cool down at the Wild Water Adventure Park. The 52-acre water park is filled with numerous water rides.

Kids will surely enjoy the Rotary Storyland and Playland where they bring their favorite fairytale characters to life.

The park has lots of playgrounds for kids like the Three Little Pigs' house. Let your kids go to fantasy where they can explore the castle.

An amusement park isn't complete without a ride on the Ferris wheel or merry-go-round. Let your kids enjoy these two rides and see them laugh with amusement.

Going for a dip in the new splash park will surely give you refreshing relief from the hot summer sun.
