The Full Review Of Sony Xperia 10 Plus Feels Great In Your Hand
Xperia 10 Plus feels great in your hands, but you still want to put it down
Smartphone screens are getting bigger and bigger, and the borders are getting smaller and smaller. That is, unless you are Sony, the bezel is roughly the same and the screen is getting longer. The Xperia 10 Plus has an aspect ratio of 21:9, and although it measures 6.5 inches, its slim profile makes it more comfortable than a phone with a more traditional aspect ratio and a screen size.
Why does it have this unusual proportion? Sony says it's better for multitasking; it can display more text on the screen at once; it provides a more immersive movie viewing experience. Has it succeeded? Although reasonably priced, the Xperia 10 Plus is a truly satisfying phone.
Slender Design
To give you an idea of the Xperia 10 Plus, has a 6.5-inch screen, 157mm long, 77mm wide and 7.7mm thick. The Sony Xperia 10 Plus also has a 6.5-inch screen, but is 167 mm long, 73 mm wide and 8.3 mm thick. The 21:9 aspect ratio screen makes the phone longer and thinner. At first, it was very harsh and the screen feels almost restrictive. Although style ...
... has evolved on me, it stands out on the table of "standard" phones.
It has a plastic back panel with metal finish and Gorilla Glass 5 on the screen. The phone is covered with messy smudges and looks ugly.
The black model depicted in our review is also the least attractive color - the silver, blue or gold version is more special. The camera has a thick bump that rests on any surface on the phone. Another consequence of a mobile phone longer than usual is the way it is placed in the pocket. Looking forward to feeling more, sitting in the pocket in front of it makes it feel like the phone may bend. It has never been, but the fear is there.
The Xperia 10 Plus does not require a SIM card removal tool, but the pull-out tray accepts two SIM cards and one MicroSD card. This is convenient, but the phone will restart when the SIM tray is removed, which makes it unwise to play it absently. Another quirk is the side-mounted fingerprint sensor, set between the sleep/wake-up button and the volume button. The fingerprint sensor is very fast, and it will fall neatly on the thumb when you pick up the phone. But the location of the sensor makes it possible to set up extra prints - especially from the left hand - which is a pointless effort, because anything other than the right thumb is hard to use.
The main advantage of the slim frame is that it is easy to hold the phone with a small hand. It is one of the most comfortable phones, although the length of the phone takes a while to adapt, but once it is mastered, it is a pleasure. You want more phones to adopt this style, 21:9 content is easier to find, richer, and we will return to this question soon.
The volume and sleep/wake-up keys are very small, close to the body and easy to miss. I often find myself feeling the volume button because it is flush with the body. This is frustrating. At the bottom of the phone is a USB Type-C charging port with two speaker grills on each side. Only the one on the right actually has a speaker behind it. At the top of the phone is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
If you choose the right color, the Xperia 10 Plus looks attractive, just like several other phones - this is usually a popular trend in 2019. There are some quirks, but none of them are trade destroyers. The Xperia 10 Plus may not be made of metal or glass, but it definitely has high quality air. It is well-made, low-key, and not a follower of the masses.
21:9 Screen
Sony's 21:9 aspect ratio is perfect for watching widescreen movies. It does look great, but you still need to use the bezel on top of the phone and have a minimal border around the sides and bottom. Full HD+ resolution is expected today, but LCD panels do have their drawbacks. For example, there is no permanent display, it is not as colorful or high contrast as an OLED screen.
Sony's 21:9 aspect ratio is perfect for watching widescreen movies.
When you watch non-super-broadcast video, there are bar graphs on both sides of the video, and the viewing effect of the 21:9 screen disappears completely. The long screen is for multitasking, and when you press and hold the app icon, you can activate it with a shortcut button. However, there is no huge difference.
Performance And Software
The Snapdragon 636 is the choice of Sony's processor or Xperia 10 Plus, as well as 4GB of RAM. It's a mid-range smartphone, but it never feels inadequate or slow. It is generally acceptable to use it. Browsing Twitter, using Instagram, playing music and other everyday tasks are all going smoothly.
The game is not that great. The screen is great - Torrent GP: Renegade is as immersive as any movie - but the phone doesn't have the courage to handle high frame rate or graphics intensive games. Casual games are acceptable. The following are the benchmark results:
⦁AnTuTu3DBench: 67,705
⦁Geekbench4 CPU: 1,338 single core; 4,940 multicore
⦁3DMarkSling Shot Extreme: 933
This is better than its small sister phone Xperia 10.
It has Android 9.0 Pie and Sony's own simple user interface, which is a far cry from the visual experience on your Google Pixel 3 or Android One phone. Sony has some pre-installed apps, from its own Xperia Lounge, and a useful screen shortcut called side sense. Click this button to get started with a popular app, or swipe down to return. This is very useful for one-handed use, which is already the strength of the Xperia 10 Plus.
This is affected by the camera application, the shutter speed is slow, and the gesture control system is too sensitive. Swipe up to access a running app and easily bypass this feature and open the app tray. Otherwise, the software is good and it's nice to see a major manufacturer deviate from the complex user interface and private label assistant. Just press and hold the Home button to use the Google Assistant.
Battery
The most day is the expectation of the Xperia 10 Plus internal 3,000mAh battery. Use a lot of games, photos and at least 4 hours of screen time from 7am, the battery needs to be charged before 10pm.
Price, Warranty, Availability
You can purchase the Xperia 10 Plus for $430 in the US through Best Buy, Amazon, B&H Photo, etc. In the UK, Sony or the costs £350. The warranty covers a one-year design and material defect in the two-year warranty in the UK.
