Every few months, when a flagship device finally passes through the pond, this dialogue seems to have emerged. Original equipment manufacturers seem to be hesitant to expand the Chromebook market in the UK, and even if they do, the pricing structure is so bad, we want to know how the market outside the US started.

The latest Chromebook is on the other side of the ocean and is the highly acclaimed HP Chromebook x2. While this is good news for Chrome OS, HP has priced £799.00 for the world's first removable Chromebook!

$ 1,060.41

At first glance, I thought I would find at least one Core m5 processor on the newly released UK Chromebook. Oh, I am very disappointed. This is exactly the same as the Core m3 chip in the original HP Chromebook x2. You will get an upgrade to 64GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, but in my opinion it still looks expensive.

You can purchase a Pixelbook in the state. As far as I know, this includes VAT. When you convert to US dollars, HP and Pixelbook differ by about $300. This is not far from the US$400 gap, but it is still difficult to recommend the Chromebook x2 for $1,000, no matter ...
... how advanced and capable the device is.

In particular, considering that the HP Chromebook x2 is currently available in the HP store, the HP store will be reduced by $579.

Maybe I am very naive. I admit that I don't know much about the PC market outside of the states, but for me, this is HP's statement that it doesn't make any sense to expand the global Chromebook sales.

Anyway, if you like, this is my two cents or pennies. If you've been waiting for a Chromebook x2 and don't mind leaving at £800, you can choose one today and put it in the door in a few weeks.

Hope that Acer, Asus and Google will bring some competition to the market in the next few months, we will see HP's price drop to a more reasonable level.

Let's do it right: I like HP x2. This is a great Chromebook laptop with an excellent display, comfortable keyboard input and amazing performance. It's also a fabulous tablet - thin, sensitive to touch and stylus, and able to sense direction. Plus - this is a big problem - it includes a stylus and a keyboard, and many premium hybrids at the time insisted that you buy them separately.

If you can live without a handful of apps that require Windows or Mac OS - and trust me, most people can - Chromebook x2 is your problem.

Including Accessories

At $599, the closest competitor to x2 is Google's new Pixel Slate, which also runs Google's streamlined Chrome OS for $599 (although the high-end configuration costs more). But the Pixel Slate doesn't have two vital accessories, and raises the price of the $99 Pixel stylus and the $199 keyboard jack to $899.

The problem you have is Microsoft's Surface Pro 6, which costs $899, and the 12.9-inch version of Apple's latest iPad Pro starts at $799. Adding a stylus and keyboard adds hundreds of already high price tags.

Simple, Direct, Fast

Now, the x2 specification is not particularly impressive, especially compared to the device mentioned above, except for the entry-level Pixel Slate, which runs a poor Celeron CPU. The x2 comes with an Intel Core m3-7Y30 processor, 4GB of RAM and a poor 32GB hard drive.
HP does not offer an alternate configuration in the US, but its version sold in the UK has twice the memory and storage capacity, priced at £799, which translates to about $1,015 - a price that completely undermines the appeal of x2. It has not yet been listed in Australia.

However, somehow these components come together in ways that exceed my expectations. In general, 2-in-1 seems to be confusing - this can be confusing when you switch from a laptop to a tablet or just move slowly. But x2 is positive. I experienced zero performance delays in tablet or laptop mode when loading a website or opening an app. I pressed the button to install Spotify, blinked and finished.
