Windows 7, an operating system of Microsoft for which Microsoft had stopped support for all of its previous versions of operating system such as Windows Xp and Windows vista. Windows 7 is considered as the most advanced operating system. It is available in six different editions. The six editions in which windows 7 is available are starter, home basic, home premium, professional, enterprise and ultimate. However, in these entire editions home premium, ultimate and professional editions are mostly available at the outlets for the normal users to purchase. Rest of the editions are focusing on the markets of developing and are used for enterprises. All the editions have the capability to support 32-bit processor architecture. Users can easily upgrade to another edition of windows 7. We will see all the editions one by one.

All the editions that are available in windows 7 are considered to be standard editions. Starter edition is one of the standard editions available in windows 7. Starter edition contains the least features. Windows aero theme is also not present in it. Starter edition is not available in 64-bit version. ...

The second edition available is windows 7 home basic. It is available in the emerging countries but not available in western and European markets. It has features that target the home segment users, in this touch screen controls as well as windows aero and windows media centre is available.

Windows 7 professional is the fourth edition available. This edition is targeted to the small business users as well as the enthusiasts. It has all the features available in home premium version; it also adds the ability to participate in the server domain of windows. The other features that make it professional are remote desktop, location aware printing, file system encryption, software restrictions policies and it has even presentation mode. We can even shift to windows Xp mode, which is especially available in this edition.

The fifth edition that is available in windows 7 is the windows enterprise edition. This edition is targeted towards the enterprise segment users. It is given to companies with volume licensing which also has contract of software assurance with Microsoft. It is available in multilingual user interface, UNIX application support as well as it has BitLocker drive encryption. It is only available from Microsoft Software Assurance team and not from the retail users that sell the basic editions of the operating system. It can be used on multiple machines. The last edition of windows 7 operating system is the ultimate edition. It is similar to the enterprise edition. It has similar features of enterprise edition. It is targeted on home users. The only difference is that it is available to home users on individual license basis, which is not present in enterprise edition.
