Sony's new phone has three rear cameras and an impressive OLED display
With the upcoming MWC 2019, Sony is likely to release its new flagship smartphone in the form of the Xperia XZ4. The Japanese technology company has developed the habit of launching a new Xperia phone every six months: XZ2 appeared in MWC 2018, while XZ3 appeared in the same year.
The Xperia XZ4 is a crash certificate: a recently leaked benchmark, rendering and specification that a new phone is coming out. But how much do we know about the latest Sony phones? Please read it carefully to find out the answer.
Sony Xperia XZ4 release date: When is it launched?
If the six-month trend continues, we can expect to see the Xperia XZ4 for the first time at the MWC 2019 in February. According to the precedent, the official release may take place in the next few months.
The Sony Xperia XZ2 uses the same template: it debuted at MWC in February 2018 and then launched in April two months later. Currently, there is no news on the official release date, but this theory is still very likely.
Sony Xperia XZ4 price: how much?
Given ...
... the lack of tangible information about the Xperia XZ4, the best we can offer is a guess about the price of a good education.
The Xperia XZ2 and XZ3 are priced at £699 when they are released. In an ideal world, the price hasn't changed: £699 is too much for the previous Sony XZ smartphone, but it's relatively cheap now, compared to £1,000 on the Samsung Galaxy S10.
Sony's business model is slightly confusing, launching variants of the flagship phone at unusual intervals, and often causing confusion. As mentioned earlier, the XZ3 is priced at £699, which is £100 less than the XZ2 Premium, which was launched only a month ago. This temporary attitude towards price increases heralds our wallet, but it does create some uncertainty about the price of new phones.
Now we can say that any guarantor would like 699 pounds to be the absolute minimum amount you must pay for XZ4.
In the accumulation of MWC 2019, there have been leaks everywhere, and now we have a deep understanding of the appearance and operation of the Sony Xpera XZ4. The picture above is a CAD rendering of the phone: we can clearly see that the most prominent new feature is the vertical row of the three cameras, extending along the back of the device. There is currently no confirmation of what these additional lenses will be used for, but at least one of them will provide depth sensing for the "portrait mode" selfies we all really like.
Display and battery
Based on the leaked spec sheet, the Xperia XZ4 will feature a 6.5-inch 21:9 OLED QHD+ display with a resolution of 3660 x 1440p. As shown in the above rendering, Sony chose to avoid the gap, but just plug the front camera and speakers into a small bezel. In order to keep this fairly large screen running longer, it seems that the XZ4 will pack a very reasonable 4,400 mAh capacity battery. The spec sheet indicates that the phone also has some kind of fast charging function.
Processor and Memory
As we first assumed, the Xperia XZ4 is likely to use the Snapdragon 855 chipset. The spec sheet shows that the new phone will come standard with 128GB of storage; currently, it looks like the space of a MicroSD card, up to 512GB. 6GB of RAM allows content to run as smoothly as possible.
It seems more and more likely that the latest Xperia phones will be very fast. Recently leaked benchmarks - if it can be trusted - see XZ4 scores higher than any other high-end smartphone.
Software and Features
The new Sony phone will run Android 9.0 Pie, and we still accuse Japanese manufacturers of canceling some British media reports that have re-pressed their previous smartphones. The phone will no doubt use the USB-C charging port, and it seems to lack the headphone jack; there is no obvious fingerprint sensor, but the report shows that Sony will integrate this function into the power button on the right side of the device.
