When Should You Change Your Peugeot 208 Oil?

The Peugeot 208 price offers a fantastic value proposition, and it’s packed with the latest safety technology. However, no car no matter how good it is will change your oil for you, and this is an important task that should not be put off. An oil change is often part of a regularly scheduled service, but if it’s been a while or you’ve bought a second hand 208, it’s probably a good idea to go ahead and change the oil now. Let’s take a closer look at oil changes, explore why they are so important and how to do it yourself.
Why Do We Need Oil in Our Cars?
If you imagine that your car is like a human body, the blood would be the oil circulating around and making everything work. It’s not the perfect analogy, but it is true that your engine and components rely on good quality oil to do their job. A car contains many parts that come into contact with each other and oil is necessary to lubricate these parts. If the oil loses its viscosity or there isn’t enough in the system the moving parts will start to gouge into each other. This will cause damage that will be expensive to fix, and in certain cases, a ...
... replacement may be required which would cost even more money.
When Should Oil be Changed?
The oil level should be topped up periodically to make sure that there is enough in the system. However, the oil will need to be fully changed from time to time because it will lose its lubrication properties. Eventually, dirt and debris can get into any closed system via the rubber seals and metal particles from one part of the engine can get into other areas. Sometimes, metals will react with each other and cause corrosion problems that you need to avoid at all costs. Another factor is that the water content will gradually increase; this will lower the effectiveness of the oil. If you’ve ever seen older oil drained from a car, you will notice that it’s dirty, black and clumpy to pour. Compare that to new oil, when it pours, it's smooth and viscous, and it has a clear amber colour. Older oil will gradually damage your engine, and it should be replaced according to the schedule in your owner’s manual.
How Do You Change Your Oil?
An oil change requires no special skills or tools, but if you have never done one before it can be daunting. If you feel like your skills are up to the challenge you can get under the car and locate the drain plug. Put something underneath to catch the old oil and loosen it with a spanner or socket wrench. Remove the drain plug and let all the old oil drain out fully from the sump. Once the system is empty replace the drain plug and then change the oil filter to get ready for the fresh new oil injection. Open the oil cap and add the oil recommended by the manufacturer for your car. This may take some time, let the oil settle come back and add more and check the dipstick from time to time. Eventually, the oil will reach the full level, and you’re done.
