Well, this is a new thing: LG's view of the world of collapsible smartphones is that we don't need them... what we really want is the second screen, which we can do on the side.

How do you call it? How about LG DualScreen? This sounds correct, and this is what happened on MWC 2019. Designed as a companion to the LG V50 (the strange thing is not the LG G8), which is actually a fat man inserted in the phone.

From there, you will have access to another monitor that can communicate with your phone, giving your phone the equivalent of an auxiliary display.

We don't know when LG DualScreen will be listed, or cost, but it won't be so far away - we expect it to be launched before this summer, we highly doubt it will be cheap

Design

The LG DualScreen is quite good with the LG V50, but it adds considerable weight to your equipment. Although the information is sent wirelessly, it gets power and data from the pogo pins on the back of the phone.

It's not Wi-Fi, it's a specific short-range signal that allows low-latency connections - it's important if you use DualScreen as a gamepad (scrambling alarm).

Although ...
... DualScreen doesn't look too good - it's a fairly thick device that is lighter than a cell phone, which makes the balance slightly off. We are not saying that we would rather heavier, but we suspect it is a bit unbalanced compared to other "real" foldable phones.

The border around the 6.2-inch OLED screen (only full HD, not the QHD option on the V50) is quite thick and looks a bit cheaper than the phone itself, and their presence means you can't have any screens on two screens. application.

LG thinks this is good because too few apps can work in these big screen modes, and companies like Samsung and Huawei are rolling out foldable devices.

The back of the phone is very shiny and can be easily stained by fingerprints - but nothing new, holding a device with two screens off feels like you are holding a sturdy phone.

The hinges of the screen can also be folded as a whole, so you can support the V50 and watch a movie with DualScreen enabled, or use the rear screen as the camera's viewfinder.

A new way to use mobile phones

So how does LG DualScreen actually perform? Does it make anything easier or more immersive, or is it just a complete gimmick?
Ok, it's somewhere in the middle. Seeing the device demo, LG representatives are skilled at browsing different cameras or game modes, making everything look smooth. Although there is no indication, you will immediately lose your way.

First, a small power button appears on the side of the screen that you need to tap to activate another display. This menu allows you to switch between the screen being played or to display content on another display.

This is a cumbersome experience because it is too small and the display around the flip is not very intuitive (or it must be pointed out).

We tried to watch the video while browsing the web and it was fair to say that it worked very well. You can easily play YouTube videos or Netflix programs on one side and then browse the information on the other side - but all of this adds guilt, and we don't pay enough attention to important things in life, adding another distraction.

The game mode is the most attractive, DualScreen is the bottom of the gameplay, the bottom of the gamepad control, there are four to choose from. This is easy to be the coolest point, but although LG claims it works the same way as a Bluetooth controller, setting up some games is not easy.

The camera may be the most impressive part of the LG DualScreen, which displays live images on the screen, and if you use other sensors and how to change the photos, the available options are displayed.

The screen quality of DualScreen is very good, but at any time we feel that it is too low. We want it to be 6.4 inches away from the size of the phone, if not anything else just to make things look better

Early judgment

LG DualScreen shows hope. It feels like you need to let users convince the pipeline that there are some innovative things that are worth waiting for and spending a little money. For the innovative reputation of the LG V50, this is undoubtedly a boon.

Although the overall effect may be higher, it would be great if LG made features that were easier to use. Like its mobile phone, it's the most vulnerable interface, DualScreen doesn't work as you would expect, it also wraps some thick borders.

We are still waiting for the price to make a verdict here, but we don't think it's cheap, and it's hard to see how many people really want it, especially at the time.
