The new Sony Xperia L3 has a good look, both internal and external, but is it enough to exceed the budget smartphone chart? Find us in our full review.

Sony Xperia L3 Comprehensive Evaluation

Sony recently updated its Xperia series, with flagship products Xperia 1, Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus models. Another new member of the family is the budget-friendly Xperia L3, but its low cost is enough to compete in the fierce market of £200/$200? We put Sony's pace in our comprehensive review to find out.

Price and Availability

You can now buy the Xperia L3 directly from Sony, which costs only £169 in the UK, but so far the device has not been available in the US. This may change because the L1 and L2 models are currently displayed on the Sony USA website.

The device can also be used for various plans of Carphone Warehouse, EE, Vodafone, O2, as well as unlocking from Amazon.

The UK price point brings the Xperia L3 directly to the Moto G7 Play for £149 and the new Mi Mi2 Lite for £179. If you have more to spend, you can purchase Honor 10 ...
... Lite for £199.

Alternatively, you can choose Xperia L2, which is now available from Sony for £149, or $179.99 at Amazon, but it is not very cost-effective for the previous generation, so if you can, you can spend extra expenses.

Design and construction: shameless plastic

This time, Sony has given up the block design used in the previous Xperia L2, but in a more stylish, more modern way, it makes people shine.

This is fixed by a metal frame that accommodates standard control buttons, and the SIM tray also includes a microSD slot, a headphone jack and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The effect of the latter has been good, but the position on the right does make the left-hander very embarrassed, or when you pick it up with that hand.

The flip device displays a dual camera in a dual vertical enclosure, no different from the iPhone XS, and a fairly hollow plastic back.

Now we are not snobbish in using this material in low-cost mobile phones; it is durable, it is unlikely to be shattered when dropped, and the weight is reduced, which actually looks good.

Although the back of the Xperia L3 is beautiful, the center of the knocker does cause a slight inward movement. This will definitely make the device feel a bit cheaper, but since it follows the current design requirements and the hand is slippery like a moist soap, we strongly recommend putting it in a box and then solving the problem.

Grip and curved plastic.

In the hands of the Xperia L3, although the screen size is large, it is still very comfortable, mainly due to the narrow frame and high display. This will be a welcome news for those who have small handles that struggle with the ever-wider range of devices on the market today. That being said, it is still slightly wider and thicker than the Moto G7 Play and the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, both of which have the same or larger size.

Let's talk about the Specifications

All the brain power for L3 is MediaTek MT6762, commonly known as Helio P22, which is a low-end processor for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450. This is a fully serviceable chip that is nearly identical but not identical to the Snapdragon 600 series in G7 Play and Mi A2 Lite.

It helps achieve this with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage, which can be extended to 512GB by using a microSD card. This compliment is well between 2GB on Moto and 4GB on Xiaomi, which doubles the amount of available storage, although the microSD capacity is limited to 256GB.

The game on L3 is very interesting for games with lower graphics requirements such as Data Wing and Alto's Odyssey. Most games are smooth and reliable. Even if the PUBG played well, there was no ugly graphic snoring or slowdown to interrupt the massacre. The small top and bottom borders actually helped the department because it provided a perfect place to hold the phone without disturbing the action.

The battery life is very long, our Geekbench 4 test time is 11 hours, 6 minutes from 100% to zero, with the included charger, we recovered to 25% after 30 minutes. The mixing bag there is very good, but it is not the fastest charging.
