The concept of a sketch pen is fairly simple. Suitable fibres are pressed together, and one end of it becomes the soft ‘nib’. The other end (and most of the body) acts like a reservoir which holds the ink. The magic in sketch pens is the presence of a solvent in the ink which prevents it from drying up. Earlier, that solvent was some form of xylene or toluene, but today alcohol is commonly used.

The story of
sketch pens began at the start of the 20th century, when a felt tip marker pen was introduced by Lee Newman. He even got a patent for this new product. This was followed by some more variants over the next few years, but none of these could prove to be commercially viable or popular. It was only in 1944 when another product finally got patented which enjoyed a fair degree of commercial success and also became the model for future creations of sketch pens. It was referred to as a marking pen and was created by De Groft. Over the next two to three decades, better versions of the sketch pen kept getting created.

Sketch pens could usually be of two ...
... kinds – permanent and non-permanent. Permanent sketch pens leave marks which are either indelible or take a long time to be removed. If at all, they would need alcohol or soap-water solution to be removed. On the other hand, the non-permanent sketch pens leave marks which dry up quickly and when erased, they easily get removed in the form of powder.

When you are planning to buy sketch pens, look for a brand that has the requisite history of making high quality stationery items. You can get very high quality sketch pens at Elkos Pens, who also have a wide variety of writing and drawing products. Visit :
