For all the Hollywood movie buffs out there, we have listed seven movies that will allow you to explore the future of technology and the possible applications of it.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

Director – Stanley Kubrick

Cast – Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, William Sylvester, Douglas Rain, Daniel Richter, Leonard Rossiter, Margaret Tyzack

The movie is the brainchild of Stanley Kubrick. The movie is noted for its exact depiction of spaceflight, ground-breaking special effects, and great imagery, even though it was released a year before humankind put its first step on the surface of moon. Kubrick is considered a visionary and all the things he showed in the movie, be it the cell phones, laptop, and other equipment are accurate in their depiction. And yes, the movie has a digital voice assistant named HAL 9000 that goes rouge and becomes the main antagonist in the movie.

Minority Report (2002)

Director – Steven Spielberg

... movie is about police personnel using three mutated humans with precognitive abilities to stop crimes before they occur. In the present context, scientists are developing algorithms that can help predicting criminal tendencies and violent streaks in people and prevent it before the crime happens.

Her (2013)

Cast – Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde, Scarlett Johansson

Imagine a person falling for Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, or Google Voice Assistant, and loving it as a real person. Sound strange, isn’t it? Well, this movie plot is all about an introverted writer who fell in love with an intelligent computer operating system personified through a female voice. What happens next? Does the operating system requites the love towards the writer? Or the writer’s love is unrequited?

Chappie (2015)

The movie is the story of a law enforcement robot that has highly intuitive AI but it is captured and trained by a group of gangsters, who christened it ‘Chappie’.

The Martian (2015)

Cast – Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, Benedict Wong, Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor

Even as several companies are ramping up efforts to venture into space and build colonies in different planets even as inhospitable as Mars, can we ever imagine ourselves surviving, let alone thriving, in the red planet? Ridley Scott tried to explore this subject with this movie.

The movie is about a botanist astronaut who is erroneously presumed dead and left behind on Mars, leaving him to fend for himself, his struggle for survival and others' efforts to rescue him.

The Matrix Trilogy (1999 to 2003)

The Matrix Trilogy is a movie series about a group of people who fight a war against machine overlords who have imprisoned humanity in a virtual reality system.
