Noise Cancelling Headphones Are A Travel Necessity
Without Noise cancelling headphones, there is no escaping it.
There's engine and air noise on planes, blaring sounds of city streets, noisy air conditioners, unwanted noise in the office and endless lawn equipment noise at home.
Once you use a quality noise cancelling headphone, you'll wonder how you've ever gotten by without any. The first time I ever tied noise canceling headphones, I was astonished by how well they worked.
I've been using noise cancelling headphones for over a decade.
My airline provides a noise cancelling headphone for each first class passenger to use. What's Special About Noise Cancelling Headphones?
Unlike regular headphones, noise cancelling headphones do double-duty. They reduce noise in two ways:
* Actively- They electronically cancel out sound waves. They do this by picking up a sound, processing it, and then creating a new sound that effectively cancels the original sound. What You Can Expect From A Good Noise Cancelling Headphone
While lessening all sounds, noise cancelling headphones best reduce persistent, droning background noises. They're best at reducing sounds like engine and air noise, traffic, the background noise at your office, your neighbor's lawnmower.
When you first put on noise canceling headphones, you'll initially notice the passive effect- all noises are reduced by the comfortable, padded, insulated ear cups.
There's no competition with the background noise. I frequently use noise canceling headphones with a portable CD or cassette player. The volume setting I used with my noise cancelling headphones was so low that when I switched to regular headphones, I couldn't hear anything.
You can also use noise canceling headphones by themselves without external audio to make your world much quieter.
Noise canceling headphones are helpful for resting and solitude. Noise canceling headphones are so effective at reducing noise fatigue that many pilots use them in-flight. What Makes One Noise Cancelling Headphone Different From The Rest and Why Do The Prices Vary So Much?
If you've ever seem ads or displays for noise cancelling headphones, you've likely wondered why the prices vary so much.
Why Noise Reduction Headphones Are The Best
Noise reduction headphones are not the same as noise cancellation headphones. The Direct Sound Extreme Isolation Headphones are better classified as noise reduction headphones because they do not use electronics to actively cancel ambient noise. Instead, the Direct Sound headphones physically block sound by reflecting the sound away from your ears while enclosing your ears in patented sound isolating ear cups. The result is a greater degree of sound isolation and superior sound quality for your music.
Why Noise Reduction Headphones Sound Better
Most noise cancelling headphones use electronics to "listen" to the sound around you so that they can produce an "opposite" sound wave to cancel the sound inside the ear cups. This is called active noise cancellation because the headphones are actively destroying incoming sound with a cancelling sound wave. So your active noise cancellation headphones produce a sound wave that blocks that frequency inside of your ear cups. The folks that make active noise cancellation headphones know this so they build their headphones to artificially boost certain sound frequencies in your music because they know that the noise cancellation electronics are going to be destroying those frequencies. There is yet another problem with active noise cancellation headphones. The "cancelling" sound waves that they produce are not silent. If you put on a pair of active noise cancellation headphones and simply turn on the noise cancellation electronics you are going to hear a very disorienting, swooshing noise. This is the sound of the "cancelling" sound waves inside of your ear cups. Noise Reduction Headphones Are Crystal Clear
Noise reduction headphones do not use electronics to block noise and, therefore, do not introduce any swooshing static noise into your music and they do not destroy any of the audio frequencies in your music. Noise Reduction Headphones Block More Noise
Direct Sound Extreme Isolation Headphones are noise reduction headphones and they block more noise and a wider range of sound frequencies than active noise cancellation headphones. The average set of active noise cancellation headphones blocks about 12 - 17 dB of noise. Even the really expensive, $300 active noise cancellation headphones only block about 17 - 19 dB of noise. Direct Sound Extreme Isolation headphones block an average of 29 dB of sound. This means these headphones will block what sounds like twice as much noise.
In addition to reducing sound be a greater number of decibels, these headphones block a wider range of sound as well. Active noise cancellation headphones are only effective at blocking consistent, rumbling noises like engine noise on an airplane. Noise reduction headphones, on the other hand, are excellent for blocking crying babies, talking, barking dogs and other types of short burst noises because they work be reflecting the sound away from your ears.
Passive noise reduction headphones do not need to calculate anything, instead they instantly reflect the noise away from your ears.
