The Mobile World Congress 2010 (World 3GSM Congress) finally ended on Feb 18th, 2010 (local time at Barcelona). In this exciting world event, mobile device manufacturers and communication service providers tried their best to bring their cutting edge, brand new products and technologies to this show. As always, surprise hits cropped up frequently in these five days, now follow us and have a look at the devices and technologies that incorporated the top ten surprise hits of this congress.

10. Brand new Interface from ACCESS
As the owner of NetFront Explorer, ACCESS brought us not only their brand new explorer, but also showed us an ELSE INTUITION platform at this congress. This platform is developed based on the ACCESS Linux Platform v3.0 version and its interface comes with a strong sense of high tech which brings revolutionary improvements to operating experience of mobile phones.

9. The most inexpensive mobile phone from Vodafone
The Vodafone150 and Vodafone250 released at MWC2010 are super-low end phones which ...
... come with support for only quad band network, inbuilt alarm & games, as well as ringtones. These two models are manufactured by TCL from China and come with prices of $15 and $20. They are of course not smart phones with such low configurations and price tags.

8. 64GB iNAND flash memory from SanDisk
SanDisk is definitely the second-to-none company among all the world providers of flash memory devices. Their products make their appearance in many IT industries including mobile phones, digital cameras, players, mobile storage and more. At MWC2010, SanDisk surprised all of us by its innovative product of technology - iNAND flash memory with storage up to 64GB. The emergence of 64GB flash memory chip means there will be a remarkable increase in the storage of mobile devices.

7. ST-Ericsson U8500 chipset
The U8500 chipset released by ST-Ericsson comes with support for Android operating system and its dual-core processor can run at 1.2GHz. Meanwhile, it is also capable of playing and recording 1080p high definition videos, as well as conducting video output through its inbuilt HDMI slot. When powered by a 1000mAh battery, it can provide you with up to 120h continuous music playing time and up to 12h 1080p videos playing time.

6. DLP Pico Projection Chip from Texas Instruments
Texas Instruments (TT) is the world's leading manufacturer of chips, and at MWC2010, they bring us the DLP Pico projection chip, some of the new features are as follow:

a. support nHD (640x360) resolution
b. support high contrast, with maximum of up to 1000:1
c. support RGB full color display
d. improved power consumption and electrical recording
e. integrate a new Pico DPP2601/2607 ASIC/Processor with low power consumption
f. provide thinness 20% more powerful than optical module WVGA resolution
g. provide miniaturization 50% more powerful than optical module WVGA resolution.

5. Puma mobile phone
For Puma brand, it comes as no surprise when it appears at Olympics, but it is a big surprise when it comes to MWC2010. Ok, let's tell you the truth - as a well known sport brand, Puma also brought out a mobile phone, although it is a cooperation product with another famous manufacturer Segem, but wait, this action also indirectly reflects Puma's attention to mobile phone market.

4. SK Android SIM card from SK Telecom
As a Korean carrier, SK Telecom released a SIM card with more unique features. This SIM card is named as Android SIM card and its biggest innovation is it integrates a processor, 1GB flash memory, Android system, applications and user profile record into a single little card. And what's more amazing about this card is it may change a non-smart phone into a smart one which makes it a big expectation for the future applications of mobile phones.

3. Nokia Shakes Hand with Qualcomm
As is well know, Nokia has been at variance with Qualcomm for years. Although in the past few years, the problem between Nokia and Qualcomm has been focused at the ownership of "patent" which includes the Internet Protocols of HSDPA, WiMax, LTE and etc, it is finally resolved by agreements between two parties indicating that all the patent fee is at Nokia's cost.

2. Mobile Phones for the old
Finally, mobile phones for the old made its appearance at the stage of MWC2010. Emporia, mobile phone manufacturer from Austria brought us two models named as Elegance and Solid. These two models focus on the simple communication functions and make the easy operation as their big attraction.

1. LG GW990
It is quite fair to give the honor of "biggest surprise hit" of MWC2010 to LG GW990. No other devices may match its powerful MEEGO+ configuration in a short coming time. LG GW990 is equipped with a 4.8-inch, 480x1024 display which has far exceeded the normal ones. In order to guarantee a smooth MeeGo system, this model carries an Intel Atom processor with 45nm technique, and its battery capacity even reach up to 1850mHh. The GPS (with support to A-GPS) technology, Bluetooth and WiFi are of course available in this model, the only slight disappointment comes from the camera which is only a 500mp one.

Summary:
These are the top ten surprise hits selected by us. We believe that you may have already noticed these models or technologies in our previous reports and there may some other surprise hits which are not included in this article. Like K-Touch E809, the world's first model equipped with Tegra chip, is not included here, and the reason is this model showed at MWC 2010 was just for a demonstration usage and it didn't even power on for people's real experience. However, it is these models and technologies that greatly enrich the mobile phone industry and give us more thought about the future trend of mobile device. Hopefully, there will be more surprise hits in the coming MWC2011.
