A charming island country situated in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is popular worldwide for its crystal-clear blue waters and white-sand beaches. It is also favoured by many tourists arriving from different parts of the globe for its elegant resorts that are well-complemented with refreshing spas, stylish rooms, and world-class restaurants. Today, wildlife tourism in this part of the world is gradually becoming popular owing to the presence of some unique species of birds and animals in this island nation. You'll also get to taste some mouth-watering varieties of the local cuisine during your time spent in Mauritius.

During your holidays to Mauritius, you'll get the opportunity to visit the country's most fascinating attractions. Among them is the Mauritius Botanical Garden, which is also known as Pamplemousses Botanical Garden and Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden. It is located near the capital city of Port Louis and is home to some amazing plants like giant water lilies, sugar canes, spices, and different varieties of palms from many of the American, African, and Asian countries. This botanical garden also has trees that have been planted by members of royal families and world leaders, such as Indira Gandhi, Robert Mugabe, and Princess Margaret.

Your cheap holidays to Mauritius would also allow you to explore the Black River Gorges National Park. It covers a vast area of more than 67 square kilometres and was proclaimed as a national park in the year 1994. Most of the remaining rainforest of the island country is protected by this park. It is home to Mauritian flying fox, Mauritius kestrel, Mauritius parakeet, and many other endemic species. Many of the spaces have been fenced to provide protection to the native wildlife from the invasive flora and fauna. While exploring this national park, you'll come across a couple of information centres that have been provided for the visitors. You'll also find several kilometres of trails and picnic areas.

The Seven Coloured Earths are also visited by plenty of tourists every year during their holidays to Mauritius. This astonishing geological formation is found in the south-western part of the country. Although it is a small area of sand dunes, you can witness seven distinct colours of sands upon visiting this place. The red, brown, purple, violet, yellow, blue, and green sands have settled in this area, which creates a surreal view of striped colouring. In recent times, these dunes have been protected by a fence and visitors are not allowed to get on them.

Located off the south-eastern coast of the country is an islet called Ile aux Aigrettes. It occupies a total area of 27 hectares and is the Grand Port bay's largest islet. This particular place is home to a large variety of extremely rare species of animals and plants and is the only remaining part of the Mauritius Dry Coastal Forest. Logging and destruction by the invasive species led to the extinction of several indigenous flora and fauna, including the Dodo. In recent times, the Aldabra giant tortoise has been brought to this islet to rejuvenate the forest naturally.
