Why Affiliate Marketing Often Fails..

Affiliate marketing seems like a good opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs who want to make money but don't want to develop their own products or don't have the time to deliver their own services. Simply offer someone else's services and you make a commission. Everyone wins and you put money in your pocket without the cost of setting up a factory and hiring workers or holding an inventory.

So if affiliate marketing is so spectacular, and lots of people are doing it, where are all the wealthy bazillionaires and Donald Trumps of affiliate marketing? The truth is, like a handful of other businesses and business models, affiliate marketing is "bottom heavy" with struggling marketers. Many of these marketers are convinced that finding the perfect product with just the right payout will transform their business and allow them to quit their job and move to a beach to sip martinis all day long.

The search for the perfect affiliate product is like a Holy Grail quest but it is not the solution. In fact, it is part of the problem. Affiliate marketers will continue to fail as long as they keep switching affiliates, keep ...
... staring at the horizon for their ship to come in, and keep hoping for a fast result.

Affiliate marketers will succeed (and dare I say that they will also become wealthy) when they understand these principles:
- There is no such thing as get rich quick.
Realize that affiliate marketing is like any other business. It takes work to succeed.
- Know the business model. Affiliate marketing is an online form of being a commissioned sales person. The keyword is sales. That is important because:
- Sales is a numbers game. You need a whole bunch of leads to get some prospects to get a few customers. It is not a matter of finding the brass ring of affiliate products. It is a matter of finding a flood of traffic, leads, and getting them to think about clicking the affiliate link.

Sales success in every business model including affiliate marketing comes from two things:
1. Finding the right process (once you have an affiliate program you need to understand your traffic flow and what they think about when they buy, and then you need to communicate into that thought process through articles, blogs, and other resources)
2. Doing the same thing over and over and over (and over and over and over). Get it? Consistent persistence is the key!

So, if you have an affiliate product and you are wondering why you have not made any sales from it and you are thinking about switching, bring your effort to a dead stop. Do not switch affiliates. Stop looking for the Holy Grail of affiliates. Instead, take what you have and market the heck out of it. And when you've worked hard at marketing the heck out of it and you think you can not possibly do it anymore, that is when you turn up the heat and market it even more... and that is when success will come.
