A Guide To Family Holidays In Menorca

The Spanish Balearic Islands have been popular among British holidaymakers for decades now. The smallest of these islands is Menorca, or Minorca as it is also known. Its location in the wonderfully warm Mediterranean Sea makes it popular among families too.
When travelling with very young children, the shorter your travel time the better, as children can easily become bored and grouchy being stuck in a plane for hours. The fact that Menorca is only a two hour pane ride away from London is one of the things that helps this island to stand out as one of the most popular holiday destinations among British families.
As the island is located in the Med, temperatures can sky rocket at the height of the summer months. When travelling with children, it may be better to visit during the easter break or towards the tail end of the summer when temperatures have cooled to a warm and manageable 25C.
As this is a popular island in the summer, and due to its relatively small size, Menorca can become very crowded if you choose to travel at the height of summer. Choosing a less busy time to travel will not only mean more ...
... room on the beach and in the bars and restaurants, but it will usually be cheaper for you to holiday then too.
Do not be fooled into thinking that all of the Balearic Islands share the wild nightlife that Ibiza is famous for. Menorca is a very different type of island, far more tranquil, with local industry catering for families rather than young partygoers.
The small size of the island means that your accommodation will never be too far from the airport. But one of the more popular destinations for families, and less than a half hours drive from the airport, is Binibeca. This beautiful little coastal resort is home to an idyllic fishing village, clean and white sandy beaches, with plenty of boat trips and water activities on offer.
The lack of high rise buildings helps to give Menorca a more natural and relaxed feel when compared to some other more heavily built-up Spanish resorts. This and the laid back atmosphere and attitude of the locals makes it one of the more mellow Balearic Islands, creating a nice family atmosphere.
Getting around the island is very easy. With tourism the main trade here, the infrastructure has been built up to include a good public transport system. However, many families prefer the flexibility and freedom that renting a car gives them. Car hire in Menorca is easy to find, with companies at the airport upon your arrival where you can hire cars of all sizes to suit the needs of your family. Bonny Kominek is very fond of the Balearic islands and has been going to Menorca for years. Getting car hire in Menorca is essential, you can get a cheap one at Ritmocars.co.uk
