Dr. Nowhera Shaik – Life & Times

To say that Nowhera Shaik is a multi-faceted women or person would be just an understatement. It isn’t just the numerous fields she has associated herself with that makes her accomplishment extraordinary but the remarkable way she’s been able to do that. She’s an Entrepreneur, Businesswoman, Educationist, Human Rights & Women’s Rights Activist and a Politician. She’s the Founder and CEO of Heera group of companies headquartered at Hyderabad with branches flowing across UAE and other countries. She’s the Vice-President of the Women’s wing of International Human Rights Association in India. The awards she has received for her contributions to the society are aplenty.

Early Life

Born into a business family in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, the first instance of the educationist in her surfaced when she started giving lessons in religion to a few girls at the age of 19. As the number of students grew further, she started am Islamic school with around 150 students a few years later. The students from economically backward conditions were provided free education exhibiting signs of philanthropism quite early in life. Around the same time, she forayed into gold trading business which eventually got established as The Heera Group much later.

Business, Philanthropy, Activism & Politics

The Heera group which started with the gold business expanded into various other sectors like Jewellery, Textile, Tourism, Real Estate, E-commerce et cetera. Their latest ventures have been Heera Foodex and Heeradeals.com.
As a philanthropist she is involved with several humanitarian and charitable organizations within India and even outside in the Middle Eastern region. Her two educational institutions in Tirupati and Chandragiri, Andhra Pradesh, focus on providing free and quality education to the poor and needy. More than anything, Shaik has been a vocal advocate of equal opportunities and rights for girls and women, especially in educational sector. Her Heera Islamic Business Group which teaches professionals skills to women to make them self-sufficient is an example of this.
She has been actively involved in Politics as well since founding and launching the All India Mahila Empowerment Party (MEP) in Nov 16, 2017. The party’s views reflect her own social ideologies and works under the slogan “Justice for Humanity”. The party aims at addressing issues like child labour, gender injustice, illiteracy, poverty et cetera.

Nowhera Shaik with her life, work and ideologies is an inspiring figure to anyone, especially for the young girls and women of the country.
