Advice On Annual Travel Insurance
If you regularly travel more than once a year, it may well make sense to take out annual travel insurance. Before purchasing such a policy, here are a few words of advice.
Check out what your annual travel insurance covers. Will it cover you for the countries that you plan to visit? If you normally holiday in Europe, but decide to get adventurous and visit Africa, be sure and read the small print, as many standard policies will not cover travel in certain countries.
Be aware of the number of trips per year that are covered by your policy. Some companies like Go Travel will provide cover for a limitless number of trips per year with their annual travel insurance packages; other companies may set a limit ? again, read the small print.
One of the most important things to acquaint yourself with in any insurance policy ? and this includes annual travel insurance policies - is the list of exclusions that apply to the cover provided. We have already touched on the possibility of certain countries being excluded, but it is essential that you are also aware of other important exclusions - like sports equipment ...
... ? that may not be covered by certain policies.
The next point may seem like a bureaucratic one, but in fact can be the single most important issue to be aware of, the whole effectiveness of your policy hinging on it; how do you make a claim? You must know what kind of documentation, notification and evidence you will need to provide to claim on your policy, and crucially, what phone number to call.
Make sure that you cast your eye over the medical cover provided. This is especially important if you will be involved in an active holiday, such as a safari or motorcycle tour. Extreme sports like skiing and rock climbing often need separate cover to that provided in standard annual travel insurance policies.
Corporate and business travellers must also check if the policy covers both leisure and professional travel. If no mention of business travel is included in the annual travel insurance policy, make sure that you enquire about this, and have it stated in black and white that your working trips will be insured as well.
Take as much time as you can to research different policies before you pick one. It may not be the most exciting task in the world, but may save you a lot of time and money in the end ? especially if you find yourself in the position of having to make a claim.
