Starting Ms Outlook In Safe Mode
Outlook Safe Mode is basically used to ensure Outlook's safe utilization. A corrupt resource, registry, file or template can result in initiating problems for MS Outlook. Additionally, an extension or add-in which gets failed to start can also make the PST file inaccessible. In order to rescue your file from such disasters, Outlook Safe Mode has been introduced. Outlook Safe Mode either evades or repairs the source issue at times proving helpful for Outlook repair.
There are two kinds of safe mode, first one performs itself and therefore is termed Automated Safe Mode, while the second one waits for the user to give command line and is called User-initiated Safe Mode. The automated safe mode prompts you to move on without the problematic Outlook part whereas in comparison to this, user-initiated safe mode starts through the /safe option in command line or by pressing CTRL when you start the application.
Most of the times, when the application gets unexpectedly shutdown or crashed, this feature of MS Outlook proves to be productive. The application might fail to start and the following error message might occur:
...
... Outlook failed to start correctly last time. Starting Outlook in safe mode will help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully start the program. Some functionality may be disabled in this mode.
Do you want to start Outlook in safe mode?
After this error message appears and you choose Yes, then the problematic Outlook parts will get deduced and the details can be gained through About Microsoft Outlook > Help > Disabled Items and thus can be enabled again. While if you are sure that the last shutdown was unexpected but there is nothing to worry about, then select the ‘No' option.
However, if you have some doubts regarding the possible future corruption scenarios with your PST file, Safe Mode gives you an option to have PST backup and thus indirectly help in Microsoft Outlook recovery. Here you should know that the user-initiated Safe Mode has some restrictions which get deployed for example, smart tags don't get loaded and the new ones can't be saved, Auto-correct list, additional features and programs, toolbar or command customizations don't get loaded. So, don't get confused if you see some different interface.
