Except from human interventions, Microsoft Outlook e-mails can automatically get deleted due to other reasons like, anti-virus software, message rules, virus infection, and the like. Deleting an item in Outlook moves it to its trash- 'Deleted Items' folder. While the item in 'Deleted Items' folder has all the basic functionalities, it can be accessed until the folder is emptied. But in some cases, the item being deleted just bypasses the folder and has no probability of getting recovered other than backup or by use of Deleted Email Recovery application.

We'll now exemplify the situations, such as explained above, by the following realistic problem. Consider a Microsoft Outlook user that observes immediate e-mail deletion from its Inbox. As soon as it receives an e-mail message in its Outlook Inbox, the message is either moved to 'Deleted Items' folder or is permanently deleted after 'n' seconds have passed. Some of the users may also observe the same kind of problem after indefinite intervals of time.

Such situations can cause serious data loss problems if the incoming e-mails are of much importance.

Cause

Some ...
... probable causes for the above behavior to occur are:

1)An anti-virus software is configured to scan all incoming e-mails of Outlook
2)An improperly configured message rule that is sending an e-mail to 'Deleted Items' folder

In some cases, misunderstood reading pane settings can also cause Outlook user to think that the message has been deleted, while it has been actually indicating the status of read message after 'n' seconds.

Solution

The resolutions to the given problem are as below:

1)Uninstall or disable the anti-virus software, if any
2)Check Tool > Rules and Alerts to see for the problematic rule
3)Restore the deleted e-mails from a backup. This is feasible if there has been some continuous backup process running.

Or

1) Use a third-party Deleted Mail Recovery utility to scan and restore the deleted e-mails from Outlook data file- PST. These are specifically designed Deleted Email Recovery utilities that are simple to install and use.

Stellar Phoenix Deleted Email Recovery is a reliable tool that can recover deleted Outlook PST items and restore them as *.pst. *.eml, or *.msg files. This Deleted Mail Recovery utility supports MS Outlook 2007, 2003, 2002, and 2000. The software can recover all accidentally deleted e-mails, notes, calendars, contacts, and other Outlook items.
