How Google’s New Algorithm Will Affect Seo
Recent changes in Google’s search engine algorithm have affected how pages show up in SERPs. Few outside of the tech literati understand precisely how these changes were set up or exactly how they work, but the changes are pretty evident, and will require some rethinking by SEO marketers. Here are some things that are coming into play with the new Google algorithm:
* Fast Indexing
With the introduction of Google Caffeine, there will be no more “sandboxâ€Â. The indexing time frame is down to about 15 minutes now if you have a dynamic sitemap submitted to Google Webmaster Tools. This means that unique, steady content will take even more precedence in search engine rankings.
* Load Time
Matt Cutts stated in November 2009 that many engineers in Google are making the argument that the “load time†of a web page be included in the algorithm of Google. So, we know that they have been working on this. Make sure that your images and all page elements are optimized and that your sites load fast. Nobody wants to lose ranks ...
... because of this.
* Flash Sites
Based on the information above, this is bad news for Flash sites because they take forever to load. Do not expect to rank high with full flash sites.
* Paid Links and Age of Link
No more buying links to push ranks up in a short period of time! Google says that the age of links matter and stable links will get you up in the SERPs. So, if you plan on buying links, make sure you keep them for at least 8-12 months. That can be a bit costly, we still recommend building naturally occurring links.
* Analytics Data
As controversial as this is, Google might use the analytics data of webmasters in their algorithm due to the fact that it provides a huge amount of information about user interaction of a web site. We think this only makes sense, however we do not like the idea.
There are other changes that have come about at Google; to keep the techies from reverse-engineering everything, they tend to make a sweeping set of changes rather than individual tweaks. Here are some changes that SEO people might want to consider, moving forward:
* Lower keyword density
* Moving towards natural linking instead of all optimized terms
* Getting links from industry expert sites (easier if you have great content or great branding)
The single thing that many web merchants and marketers should take away from these changes is a better way of building a brand and a unique presence in ways other than search engines. Do you have a presence on social networking sites? Do people talk about your product or services on forums? It’s caused many marketers to re-think PageRank as the be-all and end-all for web presence. This might wind up with unintended consequences, though…if PageRank is not seen as such a high priority anymore, there’s a good chance that devaluing PageRank might also take the steam out of paid linking.
Regardless of the method or the outcome, one thing seems pretty certain: Google will periodically rejigger everything just to keep the techies, marketers and SEO firms on their toes. This particular tweak hasn’t exactly turned the world upside down, but it is forcing people to re-examine and rethink some of their SEO strategies.
We at Optimum7 continue to believe and advise our clients that these changes, as all Google Algorithm Changes, don’t really change the game. It still is all about CONTENT; the consistent addition, indexation and promotion through syndication great content towards generating the highest quality and quantity of backlinks. Trying to reverse engineer algorithmic formulas is pretty futile and counter to what great websites and great Internet Marketing and SEO is all about.
