Lotus Notes and MS Outlook are the email clients which are switched across number of times by several users. The process of converting from Lotus Notes to PST is termed as migration and is considered to be a time-consuming and tedious task. Also, there are many issues that need to be resolved so ensure safety of your email data. While performing migration from Lotus Notes to PST using Outlook 2002 Connector, there is a potential data loss situation in Lotus Notes when you use Outlook to mark a To Do Task as Complete.
When you use Outlook 2002 Connector and you mark a recurring task which was actually created in Lotus Notes client as Complete, you will find that the Due Date and the body contents of the original To Do item in Lotus Notes have been altered to the Due Date and body contents of the next recurring item in the series.
The reason behind this is that, when you utilize your Lotus Notes client to create a recurring To Do item (equal to Task in Outlook), a base item gets generated in Lotus Notes. In addition to this, a series of items is generated equivalent to ...
... the number of recurrences you scheduled for the base item. But in Lotus Notes, you are able to alter any item in the series out of the sequence. Now when you try to alter an item in series in Lotus Notes, you are prompted with the message given below:
You are modifying a reoccurring entry.
How would you like these changes to be applied in the related entries?
Your options are:
Just this instance
All Instances
This instance and all previous instances
This instance and all future instances
Despite of whichever option you select, the base item in Lotus Notes does not gets modified. Now when you use Outlook 2002 Connector to view a recurring To Do Item that was created in Lotus Notes client, the item will appear as a single Task in Outlook. Now if you alter the Task in the Outlook client, the underlying base item in Lotus Notes account gets modified and gives the Due Date of the next recurring item. Moreover, the underlying base item and all remaining recurrences of the item in the Lotus Notes client are altered with the body contents of the next recurring item in the sequence. Now if you modify the Task in Outlook 2002 Connector, the result is the same like you selected This instance and all future instances and include the base item in the Lotus Notes client. To get rid of all this confusions and perform easy migration of Lotus Notes to PST, use an eminent and highly effective software for conversion.
